This article analyzes experiences of racialization in stories of adult learners with refugee experience who attend a basic education program at a Finnish community college. Throughout a two-year ethnographic study, several students shared stories and thoughts on racialization and racism with the white researcher on site (the author). An analysis of the names derived from appellatives, allows for a reconstruction of the categorization methods of the world, anthropological conceptualization, and a popular image of reality. Community intervention in the “613 houses district” in Burjassot (Valencia) cannot be understood without the Escoles Esportives 613 Vivendes association. This association was set up in 1994 through the endeavours of social agents existing at the time in the district: 613 Housing Neighbourhood Association, the Manantial Association for Human and Cultural Promotion, and Burjassot’s basic team of municipal Social Services, as well as a group of young people who thought that one way to ensure the promotion of children in underprivileged neighbourhoods was through practising sports.

Exosome release by crustacean hyaline haemocytes in vitro

Exosomes are small microvesicles (40–100 nm) that are formed from the endosome to generate multi-vesicular bodies (MBVs). In mammals, exosomes play a significant role in cellular communication. Exosomes have also been reported for salmon and fruit fly but have not previously been studied in crustaceans. Therefore we undertook to study them in decapods. We chose the hyaline haemocytes of brachyuran crabs, Carcinus maenas and Hyas araneus, because these cells are abundant in haemolymph, are phagocytic and can be cultured on glass or plastic surfaces. Furthermore these cells have been observed to contain MVB-like structures that bear some resemblance to those in mammals that produce exosomes. …

Examining the relationships between teacher self-efficacy, professional learning community, and experiential learning in Japan

This study investigated the relationships between professional learning communities (PLCs), teacher self-efficacy, and experiential learning. A conceptual model that connects PLC components, including shared vision, interactive reflection, and collegiality, to teacher self-efficacy was proposed, as mediated by experiential learning. The data comprised 3,604 teachers from 204 primary schools and 787 teachers from 90 lower secondary schools in Japan.
