Short-Term Precision Error of Bone Strain Index, a New DXA-Based Finite Element Analysis Software for Assessing Hip Strength

Abstract Bone Strain Index (BSI) is a new finite element analysis tool applied to hip dual energy X-ray absorptiometry scans. The aim of this study was to assess the short-term precision error of BSI on the proximal femur, both on a phantom and patients. The International Society for Clinical Densitometry guidelines were followed for short-term precision error assessment. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry measurements were performed on an anthropomorphic femur phantom that was scanned twice for 30 times, for a total of 60 scans. Overlapping phenotypes between SHORT and Noonan syndromes in patients with PTPN11 pathogenic variants

Overlapping syndromes such as Noonan, Cardio-Facio-Cutaneous, Noonan syndrome (NS) with multiple lentigines and Costello syndromes are genetically heterogeneous conditions sharing a dysregulation of the RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and are known collectively as the RASopathies. PTPN11 was the first disease-causing gene identified in NS and remains the more prevalent. We report seven patients from three families presenting heterozygous missense variants in PTPN11 probably responsible for a disease phenotype distinct from the classical Noonan syndrome. Valid and reliable measures of sprint times are necessary to detect genuine changes in sprinting performance. It is currently difficult for practitioners to assess which timing system meets this demand within the constraints of a proper cost-benefit analysis. The purpose of this investigation was to quantify sprint time differences between single-beam (SB) and dual-beam (DB) timing systems. Secular trends in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in 32 countries from 2002 to 2010: a cross-national perspective

Background: Sufficient levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) give substantial health benefits to adolescents. This article examines trends in physical activity (PA) from 2002 to 2010 across 32 countries from Europe and North America. Methods: Representative samples included 479 674 pupils (49% boys) aged 11 years ( n = 156 383), 13 years ( n = 163 729) and 15 years ( n = 159 562). The trends in meeting the recommendations for PA (at least 60 min daily) were evaluated using logistic regression. Results: There was a slight overall increase between 2002 and 2010 (17.0% and 18.6%, respectively). MVPA increased significantly ( P ≤ 0.05) among boys in 16 countries. Conversely, n…

Environment, physical activity (PA) and motor development are tightly interwoven during childhood. We examined the associations of environmental factors with motor competence (MC) in children. Children (N = 945, 50.1% boys, age = 3–7 years, mean = 5.4 years) from 37 childcare centres in the Southern (n = 17), Central (n = 13) and Northern Finland (n = 7) participated. The environmental factors comprised the geographical location (Southern, Central and Northern Finland) and residential density (metropolitan area, city, rural area and countryside) of the childcare centres’ based on postal codes and the national population density registry. Description of light nuclei in pionless effective field theory using the stochastic variational method

We construct a coordinate-space potential based on pionless effective field theory with a Gaussian regulator. Charge-symmetry breaking is included through the Coulomb potential and through two- and three-body contact interactions. Starting with the effective field theory potential, we apply the stochastic variational method to determine the ground states of nuclei with mass number $A\leq 4$. At next-to-next-to-leading order, two out of three independent three-body parameters can be fitted to the three-body binding energies. Abstract Objectives To compare the accuracy in detection of interproximal natural carious lesions in vitro between Ultraspeed (D), Ektaspeed Plus (E), and Insight (F) radiographic films. Study design Ten observers indicated on a 5-point scale their confidence in detecting an interproximal lesion in 240 surfaces (120 extracted teeth) with noncavitated carious lesions.
