A modified pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) protocol was developed and applied to clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and enterococci to reduce the cost of using lysostaphin. This protocol reduces the expenses of PFGE typing of S. aureus and enterococci as it removes the use of lysostaphin during the spheroplast formation from these bacteria.

Ievads. Miopija ir visbiežāk sastopamais refrakcijas traucējumu veids pasaulē. Tiek paredzēts, ka tās prevalence pieaug, kas būtiski ietekmē pasaules veselības sistēmu un cilvēku dzīves kvalitāti. Joprojām nav noskaidrots viens galvenais miopijas attīstības riska faktors. Pētījuma mērķis. Izpētīt un analizēt biežākos riska faktorus bērniem, kas var izraisīt miopijas attīstību. Metodes un materiāli. Pētījumā tika atlasīti 30 dalībnieki, kuri atbilda pētījuma iekļaušanas kritērijiem. Vidējais dalībnieku vecums pētījuma laikā bija 11,8 ± 2,6 gadi, no tiem 18 bija sievietes, bet 12 vīrieši. Visi pacienti pirms mērījumu uzsākšanas aizpildīja aptauju ar iespējamiem riska faktoriem. Abstract This paper reports the treatment of prepubertal periodontitis in a 3–year-old girl with Papillon-Lefevre Syndrome. Initially, the patient was found to have a myeloperoxidase deficiency and microbiological tests have identified Bacteroides and Fusobacterium, in 60% and 25%, respectively of the total number of microbial flora cultivated. The initial treatment was extraction of all the primary teeth with grade 3 mobility, scaling, root planing and daily subgingival irrigation with a 0.2% solution of chlorhexidine. Spark plasma sintering is a manufacturing process that leads to dense materials with fine microstructures. SPS combines heating and uniaxial load as well as the Hot Pressing (HP) process but the material is heated using a pulsed current. The phenomena occurring during SPS are not fully understood and are still an open point: -Which densification and consolidation mechanisms are involved during SPS? -Why is sintering by SPS more efficient than sintering by traditional ways such as HP? –Does electrical current modify the sintering mechanisms?
