European Option Pricing and Hedging with Both Fixed and Proportional Transaction Costs
2003
Abstract In this paper we provide a systematic treatment of the utility based option pricing and hedging approach in markets with both fixed and proportional transaction costs: we extend the framework developed by Davis et al. (SIAM J. Control Optim., 31 (1993) 470) and formulate the option pricing and hedging problem. We propose and implement a numerical procedure for computing option prices and corresponding optimal hedging strategies. We present a careful analysis of the optimal hedging strategy and elaborate on important differences between the exact hedging strategy and the asymptotic hedging strategy of Whalley and Wilmott (RISK 7 (1994) 82). We provide a simulation analysis in order …
American Option Pricing and Exercising with Transaction Costs
2005
In this paper we examine the problem of finding the reservation option prices and corresponding exercise policies of American options in a market with proportional transaction costs using the utility based approach proposed by Davis and Zariphopoulou (1995). We present a model where the option holder has a constant absolute risk aversion. We discuss the numerical algorithm and propose a new characterization of the option holder's value function. We suggest original discretization schemes for computing reservation prices and exercise policies of American options. The discretization schemes are implemented for the cases of American put and call options. We present the study of the optimal tra…
Reliability of physical functioning measures in ambulatory subjects with MS.
2005
Background and Purpose. One of the primary reasons for measuring outcomes during rehabilitation is to determine the effect of physiotherapy. Repeated measurement situations are susceptible to several sources of error, including inconsistencies caused by the subject, the procedure, the instrument and the examiner. Therefore, the reliability of the measures needs to be examined. Method. The present study used a repeated-measures design. Two studies were undertaken to examine the test–retest and inter-rater reliability for physical functioning measures. The interval between the measurements was one week. The sample consisted of 19 ambulatory subjects with mutliple sclerosis (MS) in the test–re…
Customer value in Quick-Service Restaurants: A cross-cultural study
2020
Abstract In spite of the relativistic nature of Customer Value concept, research on differences in Value perceptions across cultures is still scarce. Gaining insight about this issue would be especially relevant for highly competitive and globalized industries such as Fast-Food or Quick-Service Restaurants (QSR). The purpose of the present paper is to identify Value dimensions in this industry and to analyze the links between dimensions of Value, Satisfaction and Loyalty, testing the consistency of the results obtained across three different countries. To achieve this aim, after one in-depth interview with a QSR manager and two intercultural focus groups with QSR customers, a questionnaire …
Value dimensions, perceived value, satisfaction and loyalty: an investigation of university students’ travel behaviour
2006
Abstract Both marketing practitioners and academic researchers have traditionally recognised the major influence that perceived value has on consumer behaviour. Tourism and hospitality research have recently shown an interest in value; especially, when investigated with quality and/or satisfaction. The present study has two primary objectives. First, to investigate the dimensionality of consumer value in a travel-related context (students’ travel behaviour), adopting Holbrook's typology, and combining it with negative inputs of value. Second, to explore the relations between consumer perceptual constructs such as perceived value, satisfaction and loyalty. This dual objective is undertaken b…
Multicellular tumor spheroids: an underestimated tool is catching up again.
2009
The present article highlights the rationale, potential and flexibility of tumor spheroid mono- and cocultures for implementation into state of the art anti-cancer therapy test platforms. Unlike classical monolayer-based models, spheroids strikingly mirror the 3D cellular context and therapeutically relevant pathophysiological gradients of in vivo tumors. Some concepts for standardization and automation of spheroid culturing, monitoring and analysis are discussed, and the challenges to define the most convenient analytical endpoints for therapy testing are outlined. The potential of spheroids to contribute to either the elimination of poor drug candidates at the pre-animal and pre-clinical …
Revista electrónica de investigación y evaluación educativa
2010
Assessment of Modelling Structure and Data Availability Influence on Urban Flood Damage Modelling Uncertainty
2014
Abstract In modelling application, different model structures may be equally reliable in terms of calibration ability but they may produce different uncertainty levels; moreover, available data during model calibration may influence the uncertainty linked to the predictions of the same modelling structure. In the present paper, Bayesian model-averaging was applied to several flood damage estimation models in order to identify the best model combination for urban flooding distribution analysis in Palermo city center (Italy). During the analysis, was taken into account the effect of the available data growth on the model uncertainty with respect to the different combination of models outputs.
