Inhibition and recovery of symbiotic N2 fixation by peas (Pisum sativum L.) in response to short term nitrate exposure

2014

International audience; Cereal-legume intercrops are a promising way to combine high productivity and several ecological benefits in temperate agro-ecosystems. However the proportion of each species in the mixture at harvest is highly variable. N-fertilisation may be a mean for controlling these proportions (Naudin et al., 2010). Symbiotic N2 fixation (SNF) can be inhibited by nitrate exposure. Although the effect of nitrate on SNF has been extensively investigated different scales, few studies have highlighted the impact of different timings of nitrate exposure on the SNF apparatus (N2 fixation rate and nodule biomass) and on its ability to recover after nitrates removal. The aim of this s…

Nitrous oxide emission by agricultural soils: a review of spatial and temporal variability for mitigation

2012

CT3 ; EnjS4; International audience; This short review deals with soils as an important source of the greenhouse gas N2O. The production and consumption of N2O in soils mainly involve biotic processes: the anaerobic process of denitrification and the aerobic process of nitrification. The factors that significantly influence agricultural N2O emissions mainly concern the agricultural practices (N application rate, crop type, fertilizer type) and soil conditions (soil moisture, soil organic C content, soil pH and texture). Large variability of N2O fluxes is known to occur both at different spatial and temporal scales. Currently new techniques could help to improve the capture of the spatial va…

Listeria phage and phage tail induction triggered by components of bacterial-growth media (phosphate, LiCl, nalidixic acid and acriflavine)

2015

ABSTRACT The detection of Listeria monocytogenes from food is currently carried out using a double enrichment. For the ISO methodology, this double enrichment is performed using half-Fraser and Fraser broths, in which the overgrowth of L. innocua can occur in samples where both species are present. In this study, we analyzed the induction of phages and phage tails of Listeria spp. in these media and in two brain heart infusion (BHI) broths (BHIM [bioMérieux] and BHIK [Biokar]) to identify putative effectors. It appears that Na 2 HPO 4 at concentrations ranging from 1 to 40 g/liter with an initial pH of 7.5 can induce phage or phage tail production of Listeria spp., especially with 10 g/lite…

Fusarium wilt of cyclamen : early detection and biocontrol

2016

Fusarium wilt of cyclamen is one of the most damaging diseases of cyclamen. The causal agent, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cyclaminis, is a soil-borne fungus. Losses can reach more than 50 % of the production. Several methods of control are available, but none of them offer an efficient and environmentally friendly solution. In this context, a project was developed in collaboration with the French institute of horticulture, Astredhor, which represents the producers, the INRA of Dijon, for its expertise on F. oxysporum and the company Agrene for its expertise in biological control. The project has two goals: i) design a molecular marker specific of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cyclaminis allowing …

Effect of commercially available Plant Defence Stimulators (PDS) on human innate immunity

2014

PDS (Plant defence stimulators) constitute a recent alternative to pesticides used for crop protection. These compounds called elicitors are of diverse nature, but they all act by stimulating innate immune system of plants. So, plants can better fight pathogens. Furthermore, there are many similarities in pathogen perception systems and cellular signalling in plants and animals. It is well established that many elicitors stimulate both human and plant innate immunity (Zipfel and Felix, 2005). Therefore, it is likely that human innate immunity could be modulated by PDS. The aim of this study is to evaluate pro/anti-inflammatory activity of five different commercially available PDS on human c…
