The doodle of a finitely determined map germ from R2 to R3
2009
Let f:U⊂R2→R3 be a representative of a finitely determined map germ f:(R2,0)→(R3,0). Consider the curve obtained as the intersection of the image of the mapping f with a sufficiently small sphere Sϵ2 centered at the origin in R3, call this curve the associated doodle of the map germ f. For a large class of map germs the associated doodle has many transversal self-intersections. The topological classification of such map germs is considered from the point of view of the associated doodles.
2013
The article analyses critically three dififerent models about human being: the homo faber, or tecnocratic humanism, dominant along Modernity from Descartes and Bacon to Marx; the homo natura and the homo ludens , which represent antihumanist models of the late Modernity. In front of these models we can find a fourth one: the homo patiens or excentric humanism, openned to God, others and nature. Only this model gives a consistent foundation to the universality of the rights because it identifies the concepts of human being and person.
Latvijas delegācijas darbība Parīzes miera konferencē 1919.gada janvāris-decembris
2015

(Table 1) Trace element/Ca ratios of Orbulina universa shells from late Neogene Mediterranean samples
2008
A Mediterranean composite sedimentary record was analyzed for Ba/Ca ratios on carbonate shells of Orbulina universa planktonic foraminifer (Ba/Ca)carb providing the opportunity to study and assess the extent of freshwater inputs on the basin and possible impacts on its dynamics during the Tortonian to Recent period. A number of scanning electron microscope analyses and auxiliary trace element measurements (Mn, Sr, and Mg), obtained from the same samples, exclude important diagenetic effects on the studied biogenic carbonates and corroborate the reliability of (Ba/Ca)carb ratios in foraminifera calcite as indicators of seawater source components during the studied interval. A long-term trend…
Reflections on the Everlasting and the Transient or the Road to the “Freed Field of Light”
2000
The twentieth century is a contradiction-ridden time. Without warning it combines grandiose Utopias and apocalyptic reasonings. It bottles up tragic contradictions, a feeling of insecurity, at times manifestations of despair and feverish activity. In the eyes of a considerable part of society man has lost his divine image, his place in the system of universal value. Consciousness of the loss of sense, the loss of absolute values forms a peculiar background for the cultural processes of the twentieth century. It is this loss of sense that may be the basis for its dualistic and even tragic vision of the world.
Do crossover functions depend on the shape of the interaction profile?
1999
We examine the crossover from classical to non-classical critical behaviour in two-dimensional systems with a one-component order parameter. Since the degree of universality of the corresponding crossover functions is still subject to debate, we try to induce non-universal effects by adding interactions with a second length scale. Although the crossover functions clearly depend on the range of the interactions, they turn out to be remarkably robust against further variation of the interaction profile. In particular, we find that the earlier observed non-monotonic crossover of the effective susceptibility exponent occurs for several qualitatively different shapes of this profile.
On limits and colimits of variety-based topological systems
2011
The paper provides variety-based extensions of the concepts of (lattice-valued) interchange system and space, introduced by Denniston, Melton and Rodabaugh, and shows that variety-based interchange systems incorporate topological systems of Vickers, state property systems of Aerts, Chu spaces (over the category of sets in the sense of Pratt) of P.-H. Chu and contexts (of formal concept analysis) of Wille. The paper also provides an explicit description of (co)limits in the category of variety-based topological systems and applies the obtained results to extend the claim of Denniston et al. that the category of topological systems of Vickers is small initially topological over the category o…
2020
In this paper the functions of the Spanish discourse marker ?no? are analysed from a pragmatic and an interactive perspective. Specifically, we explore the values of ?no? taking the pragmatic phenomena of mitigation and boosting, as well as the notion of affiliation as described in conversation analysis. The previous literature devoted to the study of this linguistic form has consistently identified its uses as a confirmation request or a phatic device (Fuentes, 1990, 2009; Santos Rio, 2003; Garcia Vizcaino, 2005; Montanez, 2008, 2015; Rodriguez Munoz, 2009; Moccero, 2010; Santana, 2017). This work, however, analyses how the mitigating uses interact and share features with neighbouring cate…
