Enforcing WTO Law
2017
This contribution analyses the difference between the enforcement system provided for by the European Union legal system and the one set up by the World Trade Organisation. The reciprocal and bilateral nature of the WTO obligations and the possibility for the parties to a dispute to have recourse to negotiation (in ways not always foreseen and regulated by the Dispute Settlement Understanding) in order to resolve the issue of implementation in the post-adjudication phase of the dispute settlement procedure are features that by-and-large differentiate the WTO legal system from that of the EU and also explains the differences between the remedies provided for by the two systems.
Do E-Athletes Move?
2016
This article offers possibly the first peer-reviewed study on the training routines of elite e-athletes with special focus on the subjects' physical exercise routines. The study is based on a sample of 115 elite e-athletes. According to the responses, e-athletes train approximately 5.28 hours every day around the year on the elite level. Approximately 1.08 hours of that training is physical exercise. More than half (55.6%) of the elite e-athletes believe that integrating physical exercise in their training programs has a positive effect on esport performance; however, no less than 47.0% of the elite e-athletes do their physical exercise chiefly to maintain overall health. Accordingly, the s…

This paper aims to review the five alternatives for external funding of countries faced with insufficient public funds to the state budget. It focuses on the possibilities of financing with borrowed resources. The financing alternatives are presented from the perspective of Romania's access to them, with comparative references to other European Union member states. Facsimile : The Makings of the Similar in Graham Rawle’s Collage Novel Woman’s World
2016
This article reads Graham Rawle's collage novel Woman's World (2005) by utilizing the literal and metaphoric meanings of the facsimile as critical tools. Woman's World is an assemblage of circa 40,000 fragments cut and pasted from over a 1000 copies of British women's magazines of the early 1960s. These snippets are reproduced in facsimile and thus feature a jerky variety of font types, cases, and sizes. Woman's World does not only present a facsimile of its found graphic materials but it also studies, in my reading, the "facsimile" (similarizing, imitating, copying) qualities of gender identification, adopted discourses, (cross-)dressing, and the novel's own construction. The "varieties of…
Conventional Theory’s Relevance: Evidence from Japan
2019
Abstract The formidable surge in the volume of international trade after 1960 stimulated surveys designed to ascertain to what degree the commercial flows among nations reflected the structure of their economies, in other words, how tight was the correlation between international exchanges and the specific attributes of participating nations. In fact, scholars were keen to test the relevance of the conventional Heckscher-Ohlin theory, that is, to what extent did nations’ exports reflect their endowment with factors of production, more specifically, whether their exports used their abundant factors intensively. I try to show that, although most of the tests reached their purpose in that they…
A Synopsis of the Genus Stipa (Poaceae) in Middle Asia, Including a Key to Species Identification, an Annotated Checklist, and Phytogeographic Analys…
2020
The genus Stipa L. comprises over 150 species, all native to the Old World, where they grow in warm temperate regions throughout Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It is one of the largest genera in the family Poaceae in Middle Asia, where one of its diversity hotspots is located. However, identification of Middle Asian Stipa species is difficult because of the lack of new, comprehensive taxonomic studies including all of the species recorded in the region. We present a critical review of the Mid-Asian representatives of Stipa, together with an identification key and taxonomic listing. We relied on both published and unpublished information for the taxa involved, many of which are poorly known…

Philosophical film worlds : can films themselves philosophize and if so, how can this be achieved and furthermore interpreted?
2010
The mission and function of this thesis is to generally explore the ways in which philosophy studies and investigates films. More specifically its aim is to examine the theories of Stephen Mulhall and Stanley Cavell, on how films could be regarded as philosophic in nature through philosophy, that films could indeed be independently seen as philosophical excercises in action, film as philosophizing. My goal is to clarify the connection between these two cultural, human endeavours by also having a look at a theory of worldmaking by Nelson Goodman, on how aesthetical art worlds are created and abated. I will try in my thesis to explain why the film as philosophy approach is problematic for phi…
