Numerical simulations of air pollutant dispersion in a stratified planetary boundary layer

Abstract A numerical model is described for computing pollutant concentration distributions downwind from a source. It is based on the three-dimensional dispersion equation governing the time-dependent advective and diffusive transport of air pollutants and is solved numerically by a mixed Lagrangian-Eulerian finite-difference scheme. The model includes the vertical wind shear, the turning of the actual wind, and vertical variations of the vertical eddy diffusivity. Determination of the light quark masses from eta -\rightarrow 3 pi

Recently, several experimental collaborations have invested considerable effort into new and more precise measurements of the η ! 3π decays. These experimental advances require revisiting the corresponding theoretical analyses. In this work, we present a new calculation of the η ! 3π decay amplitude relying on dispersive methods. We show how the study of this decay allows one to extract a fundamental parameter of the Standard Model, namely the quark mass ratio Q 2 � (m 2 − ˆ m 2 )/(m 2 − m 2), with good precision. Generation of narrowband antisymmetric lamb waves using a formed laser source in the ablative regime

A formed laser source, using a four-element lenticular array, is used in the ablative regime to generate select, narrowband, acoustic plate waves. The arrangement of the array produces acoustical signals that have frequencies compatible with the response of the broadband capacitive air-coupled transducer used in this study. A simplified concept is presented to explain the effect of a line array source on the frequency content of acoustic waves. Test of the MODIS Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity Separation Algorithm With Ground Measurements Over a Rice Paddy

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) land surface temperature (LST) and emissivity separation (MODTES) algorithm is the basis of the MOD21 product, which provides 1-km LSTs and emissivities for bands 29 (8.55 μm), 31 (11 μm), and 32 (12 μm). The MODTES algorithm uses the TES method with the water vapor scaling (WVS) method for refined atmospheric correction. The performance of the MODTES algorithm was tested with a set of MODIS data concurrent with ground LST and emissivity measurements. Spectral long-range interaction of temporal incoherent solitons.

We study the interaction of temporal incoherent solitons sustained by a highly noninstantaneous (Raman-like) nonlinear response. The incoherent solitons exhibit a nonmutual interaction, which can be either attractive or repulsive depending on their relative initial distance. The analysis reveals that incoherent solitons exhibit a long-range interaction in frequency space, which is in contrast with the expected spectral short-range interaction described by the usual approach based on the Raman-like spectral gain curve. Both phenomena of anomalous interaction and spectral long-range behavior of incoherent solitons are described in detail by a long-range Vlasov equation.

Asymptotics of correlation functions of the Heisenberg-Ising chain in the easy-axis regime

We analyze the long-time large-distance asymptotics of the longitudinal correlation functions of the Heisenberg-Ising chain in the easy-axis regime. We show that in this regime the leading asymptotics of the dynamical two-point functions is entirely determined by the two-spinon contribution to their form factor expansion. Its explicit form is obtained from a saddle-point analysis of the corresponding double integral. It describes the propagation of a wave front with velocity $v_{c_1}$ which is found to be the maximal possible group velocity. A new sequence of nonlinear evolution systems satisfying the zero curvature property is constructed, by using the invariant singularity analysis. All these systems are completely integrable and a pseudo-potential (linearization) is explicitly determined for each of them. The second system of the sequence is the Broer-Kaup system, which, as is well known, corresponds to the higher order Boussinesq approximation in describing shallow water waves.
