Enzyme class identification in cleaning products by hydrolysis followed by derivatization with o-phthaldialdehyde, HPLC and linear discriminant analy…
2008
The enzymes present in raw materials of the cleaning industry (enzyme industrial concentrates) and in household cleaners were isolated by precipitation with acetone and hydrolyzed with HCl. The resulting amino acids were derivatized with o-phthaldialdehyde, and the derivatives were separated by HPLC. The peaks of 14 amino acids were observed using a C18 column and a multi-segmented gradient of acetonitrile-water in the presence of a 5 mM citric/citrate buffer of pH 6.5. Using either normalized peak areas (divided by the sum of the peak areas of the chromatogram) or ratios of pairs of peak areas as predictor variables, linear discriminant analysis models, capable of predicting the enzyme cla…
Metabolic effects of omega-3 fatty acids.
2001
Some metabolic effects of dietary marine oils, or of dietary eicosapentaenoic or docosahexaenoic acid are reviewed. It is pointed out that docosahexaenoic acid appears more effective as regards induction of peroxisomal beta-oxidation. Similarly, docosahexaenoic appears more powerful in terms of suppression of hepatic delta9-desaturase activity and mRNA-levels. The potential inhibitory effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly docosahexaenoic acid, on mitochondrial beta-oxidation is discussed. Experiments with rats suggesting that the hypolipidaemic response of eicosapentaenoic acid is more marked when the fatty acid was given to fed rats, as compared to fasted rats, are discussed.
Amphiphilic derivatives of a polyaspartamide: their aggregation and solubilization ability
2006
Abstract The self-aggregation and solubilization capability of a series of amphiphilic copolymers obtained by derivatisation of polymeric chain of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide (PHEA) with polyethylene glycols (PEG, being different molecular weight 2000 or 5000 Da, PEG2000 and PEG5000, respectively) and/or hexadecylamine alkyl chain (C16), namely PHEA–PEG2000, PHEA–PEG5000, PHEA–C16, PHEA–PEG2000–C16 and PHEA–PEG5000–C16, have been evidenced by performing systematic tensiometric and spectrophotometric studies. All measurements have been performed at 25.0 °C over a wide copolymer concentration range. The tensiometric results have shown that, for all copolymers studied, the surf…
Modified Donnan phenomena in polyaniline with poly(vinyl sulphonate) chains
1993
We develop a physical model, based on the modified Donnan phenomena ideas introduced previously by the authors, to describe the acid doping of the conducting polymer polyaniline. The theory is motivated by the experimental work of Asturias et al. [Ber. Bunsenges. Phys. Chem. 95, 1381 (1991)]. Good agreement between theory and experiment is found.
Comperative studies with Culex pipiens egg rafts. Immunogenetic, electrophoretic and enzymatic analysis of unfertilized, compatible and incompatible …
1973
By applying immunologic, electrophoretic and enzymatic methods, extracts of different raft types of Culex pipiens were analysed. Rafts of the crosses Pa x Pa and Ha x Ha contained four common antigens, while unfertilized rafts of Pa and Ha (no antisera were prepared against them) and rafts of the crosses Og x Og, Og x Pa, and Pa x Og shared three common antigens with the remaining raft extracts. Disk-electrophoresis of raft extracts in acrylamide gel resulted in different electropherograms. Ten protein bands were common to all these raft types. The unfertilized rafts of Pa and Ha yielded three more protein bands, the crosses Pa x Ha and Ha x Pa one more, the crosses Og x Og and Pa x Og thre…
The 2-oxoglutarate binding site of prolyl 4-hydroxylase. Identification of distinct subsites and evidence for 2-oxoglutarate decarboxylation in a lig…
1984
The structure and function of the 2-oxoglutarate binding site of prolyl 4-hydroxylase was studied by assaying the inhibitory potential of 24 selected aliphatic or aromatic compounds. All except one of them inhibited the enzyme competitively with respect to 2-oxoglutarate and noncompetitively with respect to Fe2+, the Ki values ranging from 0.8 microM to over 15 mM. The Ki values for the two most effective inhibitors, pyridine 2,5-dicarboxylate and 2,4-dicarboxylate, were about 0.8 microM and 2 microM, these compounds being the most potent inhibitors of prolyl 4-hydroxylase with respect to 2-oxoglutarate known so far. Only one of the compounds tested, 2-oxoadipinate, was able to support hydr…
ChemInform Abstract: Enantioselective Addition of Nitromethane to α-Keto Esters Catalyzed by Copper(II)-Iminopyridine Complexes.
2008
The copper complex of a chiral iminopyridine easily prepared from (R)-(−)-fenchone and picolylamine catalyzes the enantioselective Henry (nitroaldol) reaction between nitromethane and α-keto esters. Good yields and modest to good enantioselectivities are obtained for a wide range of α-keto esters, bearing aromatic, alkyl or alkenyl groups attached to the ketone carbonyl group.
Analysis of amino acids using serially coupled columns.
2017
Single conventional columns in reversed-phase LC are insufficient for analysing the isoindoles of primary amino acids, due to their limited functionality. An interesting possibility for increasing the separation power is the combination of several columns of different nature, where the length is modified by coupling small segments. This approach may require a considerable investment to have multiple lengths for each stationary phase. However, the combination of only two columns of fixed length can be enough to resolve satisfactorily relatively complex mixtures, provided that an optimised gradient program is applied. In this work, a mixture of 19 primary amino acid isoindoles found in protei…
The binary pyrene/heptakis-(6-amino-6-deoxy)-β-cyclodextrin complex: A suitable chiral discriminator. Spectrofluorimetric study of the effect of some…
2002
The effect of some α-amino acids and their esters on the stability of the binary pyrene/heptakis-(6-amino-6-deoxy)-β-cyclodextrin (py/am-β-CD) complex has been studied by means of fluorescence spectroscopy at two pH values (8.0 and 9.0). The binary complex was generally stabilized by adding the ternary agent at pH 8.0. A more varied substrate effect is observed at pH 9.0 where am-β-CD is present in the uncharged form. The conditional constant (β2) values determined by L/D α-amino acids show that the binary complex is a suitable receptor for chiral recognition. The enantiomer selectivity values obtained, ranging from 1.2 up to 7.4, are generally higher than those reported for α-amino acids a…
Determination of optical purity of phosphonic acid analogues of aromatic amino acids by capillary electrophoresis with alpha-cyclodextrin.
2000
A simple and efficient method for the determination of enantiomeric purity of structurally diverse phosphonic and phosphinic acid analogues of phenylalanine and phenylglycine using capillary electrophoresis is presented. These preliminary studies indicated that the enantiomer separation is strongly dependent on the structure of the aminophosphonic acid.
