A Narrative of the AESOP Quality Recognition Programme in the Field of Planning Education

2017

The article proposes a reflection about the Coordination of planning curricula, quality assur ance and accreditation processes promoved by AESOP, on the principle of cooperation and mutual bene ts. On the occasion of several debates at the Heads of Schools meetings, it became clear that, in addition to the existing framework of the AESOP Core Curriculum, a further active implication was needed in order to enhance, improve and support planning curricula and programmes, especially in a time of crisis. Infact, coordination of planning courses and their quality recognition had (and still have) to be considered in a cooperative approach, rather than in a competitive one: an ap proach to be bas…

Primary paraesophageal Ewing’s sarcoma: an uncommon case report and literature review

2015

Ewing’s sarcoma is a rare and highly aggressive cancer most frequently arising in people under 20 years of age. We report an uncommon case of primary paraesophageal Ewing’s sarcoma in a 25-year-old male harboring the infrequent EWSR1/ERG fusion transcript with multiple splice variants coexisting in the same tumor. The patient was totally refractory to chemotherapy and died 17 months after diagnosis. We underscore the need for better understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of the disease and improved systemic therapy options.

Achalasia with megaesophagus and tracheal compression in a young patient: A case report.

2015

Highlights • This report emphasizes that physicians should be alert and consider airway obstruction and signs of dyspnea as severe and threatening symptoms in extensive cases of achalasia with megaesophagus. • Early surgical treatment provides a therapeutic option to obviate the occurrence of acute respiratory distress and consecutive complications. • In particular, difficulties in intubation prior to surgery must be considered. Due to potential tracheomalacia, the status of “bull frog neck” in achalasia, including severe tracheal compression caused by megaesophagus with concomitant cervical swelling, may also lead to extubation problems and deserves special care in the postoperative period.
