Application of silicon-based camera for measurement of non-homogeneous thermal field on realistic specimen surface

2019

Abstract The high-cost low-resolution infrared cameras operating in middle infrared spectral ranges are widely used to detect the thermal fields. In this study, a low-cost high-resolution silicon-based sensor camera operating in near infrared spectral ranges is used to perform the observation of the thermal fields on the realistic steel specimen surface. In near-infrared spectral ranges, a small temperature variation led to a large modification in the sensor illumination, inducing acquired images with over saturation or poor dynamic range of gray levels. To address this problem, an algorithm was used to precisely adjust the exposure time to acquire images with constant gray level whatever t…

Aptamer-embedded DNA origami cage for detecting (glycated) hemoglobin with a surface plasmon resonance sensor

2020

DNA origami-based cages functionalized with aptamer motifs, were used to detect hemoglobin and glycated hemoglobin. The binding between the cages and hemoglobin was monitored using a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor. One DNA strand in the nano-cage was replaced with an aptamer that demonstrated a high affinity to hemoglobin (Hb) or glycated hemoglobin (gHb). Three types of the DNA nano-cages designed to fit the size and shape of hemoglobin were evaluated: one without an aptamer, one with the Hb-affinity aptamer (HA) and one with the gHb-affinity aptamer (GHA). Both DNA nano-cages embedded with HA and GHA showed significantly more stable binding with Hb and gHb by 5 and 9 times, respec…

X-ray imaging of the heating zone of non-normal incidence pumped XRL plasma

2006

Soft x-ray emission, above 600 eV, from a grazing incidence pumped Ni-like Mo x-ray laser (GRIP-XRL) [1] plasma was investigated. Using a pinhole camera looking along the target surface, perpendicular to the direction of the XRL emission, spatially-resolved information was obtained with a resolution which was limited only by the pinhole size of 10 μm. The relative distance from the target surface to the plasma zone heated by th e picosecond pulse was investigated for different GRIP angles, energy ratios and delays between the plasma producing and the plasma heating pulses.

Impact of root canal preparation size and taper on coronal-apical micro-leakage using glucose penetration method

2014

Objectives: The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the effect of root canal preparation size and taper on the amounts of glucose penetration. Material and Methods: For conducting this experimental study, eighty mandibular premolars with single straight canals were divided randomly into 2 experimental groups of 30 samples each and 2 control groups. Using K-files and the balance force technique, canals in group 1 were prepared apically to size 25 and coronally to size 2 Peeso - reamer. Group 2 were instrumented apically and coronally to size 40 and size 6 Peesoreamer, respectively. Rotary instrumentation was accomplished in group 1; using size 25 and .04 tapered and in group 2, size…

Digital video-electrochemistry (DVEC) to assess electrochromic materials in the frequency domain: RGB colorimetry impedance spectroscopy

2021

Abstract This work is the first one allowing the characterization of electrochromic devices simultaneously at various parts on their surface and different rates of color change. We describe a new proficient and affordable methodology for reporting electrochromic parameters such as coloration efficiency, optical contrast, and switching time based on the use of digital video-electrochemistry (DVEC) in the ac regime, namely RGB colorimetry impedance spectroscopy. Simultaneously with the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, the RGB color changes of an electrochromic electrode were recorded by a CCD digital camera at 120 digital images per second. In such conditions, RGB electrochromic change…

Magnetic excitations in an exchange-coupled tetramer cluster of cobalt (II): a study by inelastic neutron scattering

1992

Abstract The polyoxometalate K 10 [Co 4 (H 2 O) 2 (PW 9 O 34 ) 2 ].20H 2 O contains a ferromagnetically exchange-coupled tetramer of Co 11 encapsulated in between two diamagnetic molecules (PW 9 O 34 -9 . At 2.5K several inelastic peaks are observed in the energy range 1.5–7 meV, which are assigned to magnetic excitations in the cluster. A tentative interpretation of these data from an anisotropic exchange model yields a cobalt-cobalt interaction of 3meV (24cm -1 ) and an amount of anisotropy J xy / J z ≌0.6. These values are consistent with the magnetic susceptibility measurements.

Physical characterization of alginate-Pluronic F127 gel for endoluminal NABDs delivery

2014

Here we focus the attention on the physical characteristics of a highly biocompatible hydrogel made up of crosslinked alginate and Pluronic F127 (PF127). This is a composite polymeric blend we propose for artery endoluminal delivery of an emerging class of molecules named nucleic acid based drugs (NABDs). The physical characterization of our composite gel, i.e. mesh size distribution and PF127-alginate mutual organization after crosslinking, can significantly determine the NABDs release kinetics. Thus, to explore these aspects, different technical approaches, i.e. rheology, low/high field NMR and TEM, were used. While rheology provided information at the macroscopic and nano-level, the othe…

Smart Sorption Materials in Green Analytical Chemistry

2019

The use of smart materials as alternative sorption materials for their use in greening sample preparation has been reviewed. It has been taking into consideration recent advances on the use of natural products, without any modification or purification, for making analyte extraction and pre-concentration and the use of specific materials in solid-phase extraction (SPE) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) approaches. Inorganic materials, such as metal oxides, alumina-based, silica-based, and carbon-based materials together with biomimetic sorbents such as classical immunosorbents, aptamers, and molecularly imprinted polymers, have been reviewed as examples of these materials, stressing the…
