Electrochemical treatment of aqueous solutions containing one or many organic pollutants at boron doped diamond anodes. Theoretical modeling and expe…
2012
The electrochemical oxidation of organics in water at boron doped diamonds (BDD) was experimentally investigated with the aim to discuss the correlations among the conversion of the pollutants and the instantaneous current efficiency ICE with the operative conditions. A simple theoretical model previously developed for the oxidation of oxalic acid accounting for the cases of mass transfer control, oxidation reaction control and mixed kinetic regimes was adopted and extended to challenge its predictive capability in the case of organics of different nature and in systems with more pollutants. A quite good agreement, between theoretical predictions and experimental data pertaining to the elec…
Structural insight on organosilica electrodes for waste-free alcohol oxidations
2007
Organic modification of sol-gel catalytic glassy electrodes made of a thin layer of organosilica doped with nitroxyl radical TEMPO (2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy) crucially enhances stability in the waste-free oxidation of alcohols to carbonyls in water. Structural comparison between analogous films made of organosilica and unmodified SiO2 shows that the origin of the pronounced stable activity of the ORMOSIL film lies in high hydrophobic and also in the pronounced low degree of hydrophilicity.
Microfabrication of hybrid fluid membrane for microengines
2015
International audience; This paper describes the microfabrication and dynamic characterization of thick membranes providing a technological solution for microengines. The studied membranes are called hybrid fluid-membrane (HFM) and consist of two thin membranes that encapsulate an incompressible fluid. This work details the microelectromechanical system (MEMS) scalable fabrication and characterization of HFMs. The membranes are composite structures based on Silicon spiral springs embedded in a polymer (RTV silicone). The anodic bonding of multiple stacks of Si/glass structures, the fluid filling and the sealing have been demonstrated. Various HFMs were successfully fabricated and their dyna…
A gated material as immunosensor for in-tissue detection of IDH1-R132H mutation in gliomas
2021
[EN] A nanodevice consisted on nanoporous anodic alumina (NAA) supports functionalized with specific and selective antibody-based gatekeepers for the detection of IDH1-R132H mutant enzyme is here reported. Molecular profile and tissue mutations of the tumours (such as IDH1/IDH2 mutations in gliomas) are a great source of information that already make a difference in terms of prognosis and prediction of response to combined therapy. However, standardized methodologies to determine this mutation are time-consuming and cannot provide information before or during surgical intervention, which significantly limits their utility in terms of intraoperative decisionmaking. To solve this limitation, …
Lead Nanowires for Microaccumulators Obtained Through Indirect Electrochemical Template Deposition
2010
Metallic lead nanowires were deposited within pores of commercial anodic alumina membranes having an average pore diameter of 210 nm. "Direct" electrodeposition was attempted from 0.1 M Pb(NO 3 ) 2 aqueous solution with a variable concentration of H 3 BO 3 as a chelating agent, but it gave unsatisfactory results. An "indirect" two-step deposition procedure was then adopted, consisting of the anodic electrodeposition of α-PbO 2 nanowires, followed by their in situ reduction to metallic lead. Both these processes occurred at a high rate so that the indirect method led to a complete template pore filling with pure polycrystalline Pb in short times and with a high current efficiency.
Electrochemical oxidation of tetramethoxy precursor as a key step for the synthesis of coenzyme Q10
2007
The feasibility of electrosynthesis of coenzyme Q10 (1) by electrooxidation of tetramethoxy precursor (2) has been investigated at carbon, Pt and BDD anodes in a divided cell. The process strongly depends on the applied potential, anode material and water content of the solvent. At carbon anodes in CH3CN/CH2Cl2 + 0.15 M Bu4NBF4 at proper operative conditions high faradic efficiency (>60%) and excellent selectivity (95–97%) of the target product were obtained. Template electrosynthesis of La(OH)3 and Nd(OH)3 nanowires using porous anodic alumina membranes
2007
High quality arrays of Ln(OH)3 (Ln = La, Nd) nanowires have been successfully fabricated for the first time by an electrochemical process using anodic alumina membrane templates. A physico-chemical characterisation of electrodeposited hydroxides has been carried out by different techniques (XRD, SEM and EDX). The results show that the synthesized nanostructures are crystalline, dense, continuous, well aligned, and with high aspect ratio, suggesting further development of possible applications in the lanthanide family species. Comments on 'formation and characterization of nanotubes of La(OH) 3 obtained using porous alumina membranes'
2010
New experimental evidence concerning the formation of La(OH)3 nanowires on anodic alumina membranes by cathodic polarization in 0.05 M lanthanum nitrate solution is provided to further support the conclusions previously reached in our work (Bocchetta et al 2007 Electrochem. Commun. 9 683-8) and recently criticized by González-Rovira et al (Nanotechnology 2008 19 495305). Some unconvincing aspects of the paper of González-Rovira et al, according to which the same electrochemical process should lead to the formation of hydroxycarbonate nanotubes, are also discussed.
