Synthesis, X-ray Structure, Antimicrobial and Anticancer Activity of a Novel [Ag(ethyl-3-quinolate)2(citrate)] Complex
2022
A novel Ag(I) citrate complex with ethyl-3-quinolate (Et3qu) was synthesized. Its structure was confirmed using X-ray single crystal to be [Ag(Et3qu)2(citrate)]. It crystallized in the Triclinic crystal system and P-1 space group with unit cell parameters of a = 8.6475(2) Å, b = 11.4426(3) Å, c = 15.2256(3) Å, α = 73.636(2)°, β = 79.692(2)° and γ = 86.832(2)°, while the unit cell volume was 1422.19(6) Å3. In the unit cell, there are two [Ag(Et3qu)2(citrate)] molecules and one unit as the asymmetric formula. The molecular structure comprised one Ag(I) coordinated with two Et3qu molecules via two almost equidistant Ag-N bonds and one citrate ion acting as a mono-negative monodentate ligand vi…
Antimicrobial Activity of Resveratrol Analogues
2014
Stilbenes, especially resveratrol and its derivatives, have become famous for their positive effects on a wide range of medical disorders, as indicated by a huge number of published studies. A less investigated area of research is their antimicrobial properties. A series of 13 trans-resveratrol analogues was synthesized via Wittig or Heck reactions, and their antimicrobial activity assessed on two different grapevine pathogens responsible for severe diseases in the vineyard. The entire series, together with resveratrol, was first evaluated on the zoospore mobility and sporulation level of Plasmopara viticola (the oomycete responsible for downy mildew). Stilbenes displayed a spectrum of acti…
Extraction of essential oil from Aloysia citriodora Palau leaves using continuous and pulsed ultrasound: Kinetics, antioxidant activity and antimicro…
2018
International audience; The impact of continuous and pulsed ultrasound pre-treatments (15, 30 and 45 min) followed by conventional hydrodistillation on the characteristics of extracted essential oils (EOs) from dried leaves of Aloysia citriodora Palau was evaluated for the first time. Chemical composition of EOs, antibacterial and antioxidant activities, as well as the contents in heavy metals (iron, copper, lead, arsenic, and cadmium) were determined. Pretreating the leaves with ultrasound (continuous and pulsed), before hydrodistillation, resulted in shorter extraction time (93.81–121.16 min) and higher extraction yields (2.8 (v/w) %) (p < 0.05), compared to the non-sonicated leaves (extr…
Exposure of benthic microbial communities to pharmaceuticals and resulting adaptation including tolerance, biodegradation and antibiotic resistance: …
2022
International audience; Since the early 1920’s, pharmaceuticals, including antibiotics, have been massively producedand consumed for the benefit of both human and animal health. Pharmaceuticals residues havethen reached the aquatic environment through diffuse and point (wastewater) sources. Amongthe pharmaceutical residues, the ubiquitous presence of antibiotics could exert a selectivepressure on microbial communities leading to the acquisition and dissemination of antibioticresistance in the environment. We present here the synthesis of recent research projects (e.g. PANDORE, Antibio-tools,Antibiotox, PharmaTox...) investigating the dissemination of pharmaceuticals, includingantibiotics, in…
Contribution à la compréhension de l'influence des paramètres de formulation et de procédé sur la structure et les propriétés fonctionnelle de films …
2012
The aim of this study is the analysis of structure and transfer mechanisms through chitosan based food packaging materials with incorporated carvacrol as a model of antimicrobial active substance. Integration of composition parameters, structure, processing and drying of chitosan systems is correlated to its physico chemical and functional properties. Understanding and detailed analyses of processing parameters is crucial in production of active chitosan coatings applied on conventional materials such as polyethylene. So, the knowledge of composition and microstructure in association to environmental conditions, control the retention and the release kinetics of carvacrol from chitosan film.…

Biofilm Related to Animal Health, Zoonosis and Food Transmitted Diseases: Alternative Targets for Antimicrobial Strategy?
2012
The biofilm is a complex community of microbial cells that are associated with a surface and enclosed in a self-produced biopolymer matrix. Such structured community is a response of bacteria to a signal system named quorum sensing (QS) constituted by inter-cell communication through the production of small molecules called autoinducers (AIs) that trigger a cascade of events in gene expression. When the concentration of the AIs molecules reach a certain threshold, the bacterial population acts as a single organism, collectively expressing virulence or biofilm forming genes. Gram-positive bacteria use modified oligopeptides as QS effectors molecules.
Potential anticarcinogenic peptides from bovine milk.
2012
Bovine milk possesses a protein system constituted by two major families of proteins: caseins (insoluble) and whey proteins (soluble). Caseins (αS1,αS2,β, andκ) are the predominant phosphoproteins in the milk of ruminants, accounting for about 80% of total protein, while the whey proteins, representing approximately 20% of milk protein fraction, includeβ-lactoglobulin,α-lactalbumin, immunoglobulins, bovine serum albumin, bovine lactoferrin, and lactoperoxidase, together with other minor components. Different bioactivities have been associated with these proteins. In many cases, caseins and whey proteins act as precursors of bioactive peptides that are released, in the body, by enzymatic pro…
Production of cecropin A in transgenic rice plants has an impact on host gene expression.
2008
Summary Expression of the cecropin A gene in rice confers resistance to the rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae. In this study, a polymerase chain reaction-based suppression subtractive hybridization approach was used to generate a cDNA macroarray from the elite japonica rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivar ‘Senia’. Gene expression studies revealed that the expression of components of the protein secretory and vesicular transport machinery is co-ordinately activated at the pre-invasive stage of infection of rice by the blast fungus. Comparisons of gene expression between wild-type and cecropin A plants revealed the over-expression of genes involved in protection against oxidative stress in tran…
The Effect of Cantharellus Cibarius Addition on Quality Characteristics of Frankfurter during Refrigerated Storage
2019
The antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of Cantharellus cibarius decoction and the effect of mushroom addition on the physicochemical and microbiological properties of frankfurters during refrigerated storage were studied. Mushroom addition significantly reduced (p <
