Expectations And Mindsets Related To GDPR
2022
The aim of this qualitative case study is to examine the initial expectations and assumptions related to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union from the perspectives of selected Finnish organizations: what were the initial expectations of GDPR, how were they adapted/refined over time, and what was the impact on organizational planning and resourcing. There are no precise earlier studies on the subject. The research question was: What were the organizations’ initial expectations of GDPR - and how have they affected the efforts made? GDPR can be described as an input that forms images, preconceptions and views among other things, through various active and passive c…
Probabilistic Evaluation of the Adaptation Time for Structures under Seismic Loads
2016
Abstract In this paper, a probabilistic approach for the evaluation of the adaptation time for elastic perfectly plastic frames is proposed. The considered load history acting on the structure is defined as a suitable combination of quasi-statical loads and seismic actions. The proposed approach utilizes the Monte Carlo method in order to generate a suitable large number of seismic acceleration histories and for each one the related load combination is defined. Furthermore, for each load combination the related adaptation time is determined, if any, as the optimal one for which the structure is able to shakedown under the unamplified applied actions. A known generalized Ceradini's theorem i…
Social Science Research in Southeast Asia : the Challenges of Studying Parliamentary Institutions
2019
This paper introduces the challenges of studying parliamentary institutions in Southeast Asia. My focus of research is in three countries’ institutions: national parliaments of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. While in Southeast Asia, it is widely known that studying issues of politics and institutions face challenges – compared to studying culture, for example, this view is arguably no longer valid, however with certainqualification. The comparison of parliamentary tradition between three countries – based on observation of the plenary session - reveals that the effectiveness of parliamentary works is related to parliamentary procedure, and even to the culture of work in the countries. Pa…
Binds of Professionalism: Attachment in Australian and Finnish Early Years Policy
2016
Attachment theory is often referenced in psychology, social work and early childhood care and education, and is ubiquitous in popular publications directed to parents, carers and educators of young children. It is considered as a ‘grand theory’ that explains “the growth of social relationships from infants’ experiences with their caregivers and the consequent social preference called attachment” (Mercer, 2011, p. 26). In this chapter, we understand attachment theory as a discourse and as part of the ‘psy-complex’, “the sprawling speculative and regulative network of theories and practices that constitute psychology” (Parker, 2002, p. 199). We focus on the operation of ‘attachment discourses…
Early warning system in logistics project management
2017
Risk management is a vital process in all complex logistics project management. We discuss the concept of early warning system EWS dedicated to logistics project, which enable management under the conditions of uncertainty and risk. The complexity and uniqueness of the logistics projects as well as the discontinuity of the effects in the environment of goods and services, significantly impact the inability to eliminate the risks and subsequently lead to changes during execution. The introduction into companies and supply chains things such as: principles, methods, mechanisms of knowledge management and project risk, e.g. by implementing into the logistics project management the early warnin…
Stakeholder Analysis as a Source of Early Warning Signals in Logistics Projects
2017
Logistics projects are undertaken by a set of multiple organizations that engage resources from different logistics systems, production systems, management systems, social-cultural systems. They are subject to impact of wider economic and political environments. Logistics projects involve participants from diverse cultural environments, management practice. The article presents the essence and importance of stakeholders in projects including logistics projects. The author presents the basic issues related to stakeholders and early warning concept in project management. The specific research question is: How to implement the stakeholder relations management in early warning system dedicated …

Effetto della posizione degli ovoli sulla produttività del carciofo spinoso di sicilia
2010
In Sicily, the Spinoso di Sicilia artichoke is appreciated at regional level for its organoleptic characteristics, but in recent years, its cultivation area has been subject to a progressive reduction because of its susceptibility at the atrophy of head, low earliness, low productivity, and lack of uniformity of the productions. These problems are due to genetic variability, diseases and disforme propagation material (ovoli). This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of the ovoli position (apical, median and basal) in the rhizome of mother plants on morpho-phisiological and productive aspects of the artichokes. The results showed that basal ovoli gave faster growth, better plant co…

Proteomics in antitumor research
2006
Proteins are the molecular players of fine-tuned regulatory pathways that underlie the behavior of any cell type. Derangement of this wide protein circuitry has a profound effect on cell life and ultimately contributes to the development of diseases such as cancer. New proteomic technologies are rapidly evolving to define and characterize the nodes of this altered protein network, both inside and outside cancer cells. Hopefully, these technologies will become user-friendly laboratory tools to improve cancer management from early detection to the development of rational and patient-tailored therapeutic strategies.
