2006

The Bastide Blanche (Peyrolles-en-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône) is a small settlement perched in edge of the Durance where the principal occupation is ascribable to the extreme end of the Neolithic era. Recognized in the past, it was the subject of multiple excavations but of any study nor of any specific publication. A survey campaign and a first excavation campaign programmed in 2003 and 2004 make it possible today to specify the homogeneity of the assemblies often mentioned in the scientific literature. Beyond the first description of the structures and archaeological furniture put at the day, this short note makes it possible to announce the existence of a sequence for the Rhone-Ouvèze gr…

2001

Recent Bell Beakers artefacts in the southeast of France (« Rhodano-Provençal group ») were found in different types of sites. Those can be distinguished on the basis of the artefacts (number of ornamented ware, origin of domestic pottery) as well as their topographical location (high position or plain sites). The correlation between these data indicates a geography whose significance is open to discussion.

Campaniformes et cultures locales en France méditerranéenne

2006

Since the 1998 Riva del Garda conference and the synthesis coordinated by J Guilaine (2001), the new bell beakers archaeological data of Mediterranean France make it possible to specify the relations between the Bell Beakers ones and indigenous populations of the final Neolithic in this area. The phase of synchrony between Bell Beakers and local cultures, highlighted for the Early Bell Beakers between 2500 and 2400 before our era, can undoubtedly be wide at the first times, at least, development of the regional groups of recent bell beakers ("Rhodano- Provençal" and "Pyrénéen"). In parallel, differences in relations between these Bell beakers and the indigenous populations can be supposed i…

Settlement, radiocarbon dates and craft productions during Late Neolithic and Bell Beaker periods in the ‘corredor de Montesa’ (Valencia, Spain). The…

2014

[EN] In this paper we present the results related to the excavation works conducted in Late Neolithic and Bell Beaker sites of Quintaret (Montesa, Valencia) and Corcot (l’Alcúdia de Crespins, Valencia), both in the middle valley of Canyoles river. The sites, neighboring each other, offer a quite different volume of information (Quintaret: 51 structures; Corcot: 4 structures). 14C dates allow us to define the occupation of this area of the valley along the first half of the III millennium cal BC. The presence of bell beaker ceramic in archaeological record of Quintaret is limited to just one structure (Q138), where at least 7 different vessels have been identified. Other prominent point of t…

Crémations et monument funéraire campaniformes à Genlis « le Nicolot » (Côte-d'Or, France)

2021

The building of the high-speed rail track linking the Rhine to the Rhone led to the discovery of two Bell Beaker burials in an Iron Age cemetery located in the plain to the east of Dijon. The Tilles plain is an alluvial environment, shaped by the valleys of the Tille and the Ouche and populated since Late Prehistory, particularly during the Bell Beaker and Early Bronze periods, which have yielded settlements located on the rivers. These burials are the first funerary features discovered in the area. The two Bell Beaker cremation burials excavated at Genlis "le Nicolot" are remarkable, as still too little is known of the funerary practices of the period in the east of France and in particular…

LE SITE CAMPANIFORME DE LUX LA PERROUZE (SAÔNE-ET-LOIRE)

2014

The site of Lux La Perrouze (Saône-et-Loire) has provided new data on the Bell Beaker culture of Burgundy by the discovery of a small and remark…

Bell Beakers in the southeast of France. From Archaeology to History of the third millenium BC

2002

The term "Bell Beaker", in the strict sense, designates a ceramic beaker form with an S-shaped profile that gives it the shape of an inverted bell. This type of drinking-vessel is characterized by both its very particular pattern of decoration and by the generally skilled execution of that decoration. By extension, the decoration characteristic of these beakers bas allowed the expansion of the category "Bell-Beaker" to include other pottery forms and even other types of decoration showing the same tradition, vvhich probably represent an evolution or reproduction of the original Bell Beaker pattern, The recognition of these objects and their definition as a class date to the nineteenth centu…

Historical model of settling and spread of Bell Beakers Culture in the mediterranean France

2004
