Moments for Some Kumaraswamy Generalized Distributions
2014
Explicit expansions for the moments of some Kumaraswamy generalized (Kw-G) distributions (Cordeiro and de Castro, 2011) are derived using special functions. We explore the Kw-normal, Kw-gamma, Kw-beta, Kw-t, and Kw-F distributions. These expressions are given as infinite weighted linear combinations of well-known special functions for which numerical routines are readily available.
Microcanonical foundation of nonextensivity and generalized thermostatistics based on the fractality of the phase space
2005
We develop a generalized theory of (meta)equilibrium statistical mechanics in the thermodynamic limit valid for both smooth and fractal phase spaces. In the former case, our approach leads naturally to Boltzmann-Gibbs standard thermostatistics while, in the latter, Tsallis thermostatistics is straightforwardly obtained as the most appropriate formalism. We first focus on the microcanonical ensemble stressing the importance of the limit $t \to \infty$ on the form of the microcanonical measure. Interestingly, this approach leads to interpret the entropic index $q$ as the box-counting dimension of the (microcanonical) phase space when fractality is considered.
Syntheses of Four Enantiomers of 2,3-Diendo- and 3-Endo-aminobicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-ene-2-exo-carboxylic Acid and Their Saturated Analogues
2013
Abstract: Ethyl 2,3- diendo -3-aminobicyclo[2.2.2]oct- 5-ene-2-carboxylate ((±)- 1 ) was resolved with O , O '-dibenzoyltartaric acid via diastere omeric salt formation. The efficient synthesis of the enantiomers of 2,3- diendo -3-aminobicyclo[2.2.2]oct- 5-ene-2-carboxylic acid ((+)- 7 and (–)- 7 ), 3- endo -aminobicyclo[2.2.2]oct-5-ene-2- exo -carboxylic acid ((+)- 5 and (–)- 5 ), cis - and trans -3-aminobicyclo[2.2.2]octa ne-2-carboxylic acid ((+)- 6 , (–)- 6 , (+)- 8 and (–)- 8 ) was achieved via isomerization, hydrogenation and hydrolysis of the corresponding esters (–)- 1 and (+)- 1 . The stereochemistry and relative configurations of the synthesized compounds were determined by NMR sp…
Relaxational dynamics at the class transition in orientational and canonical glasses investigated by dielectric spectroscopy
1991
Abstract Measurements of the dielectric permittivity are reported for the canonical glass glycerol and for solid solutions of ferroelectric betaine phosphite and ferroelectric betaine phosphate, which can be viewed as protype systems of orientational glasses. In this latter system long range dipolar order is suppressed by the competing ferroelectric and antiferroelectric interactions and the dipolar moments freeze-in devoid of long range order. In both systems the relaxation dynamics is studied for frequencies 10−2Hz≤ν≤106Hz, close to the glass transition temperature. The relaxation dynamics is characterized according to Angell's classification scheme of strong and fragile glass-formers.
Weak Intermolecular Anion–π Interactions in Pentafluorobenzyl-Substituted Ammonium Betaines
2012
A series of ammonium–carboxylate and ammonium–sulfonate betaines was synthesized and studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis to investigate the weak intermolecular interactions as well as the intramolecular interactions in the solid state. None of the expected intramolecular anion–π interactions could be observed, probably because of the steric demands and the reduced nucleophilicity of the anionic part of the betaines. Nevertheless, a weak intermolecular anion–π interaction between the anionic part of the betaine and the pentafluorophenyl unit is present in the structure of 5a.
Crystal structure of N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)phenylalanyldehydroalanine isopropyl ester (Boc–Phe–ΔAla–OiPr)
2014
In the crystal structure of the dehydrodipeptide (Boc-Phe-ΔAla-OiPr), the molecule has a trans configuration of the N-methylamide group. Its geometry is different from saturated peptides but is in excellent agreement with other dehydroalanine compounds. In the crystal, an N—H⋯O hydrogen bond links the molecules in a herringbone packing arrangement.
Poly(γ-Glutamic Acid) as an Exogenous Promoter of Chondrogenic Differentiation of Human Mesenchymal Stem/Stromal Cells
2015
Cartilage damage and/or aging effects can cause constant pain, which limits the patient's quality of life. Although different strategies have been proposed to enhance the limited regenerative capacity of cartilage tissue, the full production of native and functional cartilaginous extracellular matrix (ECM) has not yet been achieved. Poly(γ-glutamic acid) (γ-PGA), a naturally occurring polyamino acid, biodegradable into glutamate residues, has been explored for tissue regeneration. In this work, γ-PGA's ability to support the production of cartilaginous ECM by human bone marrow mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) and nasal chondrocytes (NCs) was investigated. MSC and NC pellets were cultur…
Evidence against a key role for transforming growth factor-beta1 in cytomegalovirus-induced bone marrow aplasia.
1998
During immunodeficiency after sublethal haematoablative treatment, cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection interferes with haematopoietic reconstitution and can cause lethal bone marrow (BM) aplasia. The in vivo model of murine CMV infection has identified the BM stroma as the principal target site of CMV in the haematopoietic cord. The infected cell type is the reticular stromal cell which forms the stromal network and produces essential haemopoietins, such as stem-cell factor (SCF). The expression of SCF was found to be reduced in the infected stroma, but the stromal network was not disrupted and the number of infected stromal cells was too low to explain the functional deficiency. These facts ca…
Influence of the composition and the structure of different media on the release of aroma compounds
2004
International audience; The release of 2-nonanone and hexenol (hex-4-en-3-ol) was studied in model media with different structures and compositions: water, a gel of $\beta$-lactoglobulin, gelified or non-gelified emulsions (5.0% Miglyol, 6.9% $\beta$-lactoglobulin; the gelation was realized by heating) and milk. The aroma compounds were analyzed by gas chromatography. A strong influence of the nature of the volatile compound on its behavior towards the food matrix was observed: in the case of 2-nonanone, a hydrophobic compound (log P = 2.9) with a relatively high vapor-water partition coefficient (Kmol = 33.6), the release was greatly influenced by the composition and the structure of the m…
Different Dissolution Media Lead to Different Crystal Structures of Talinolol with Impact on Its Dissolution and Solubility
2003
During the performance of dissolution tests with immediate and controlled-release talinolol tablets it was detected that the type of the buffer used as dissolution medium had a strong influence on the solubility and the dissolution behavior of the drug. It was proven that talinolol appeared in different crystal structures with strongly differing solubilities when pure water, acetate, or phosphate buffers were employed as dissolution media. The resulting crystal structures were characterized by means of light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray powder diffraction. All methods were adjuvant to detect changes in talinolol crystal structures. The different solubility and di…
