A Cation-Captured Palladium(0) Anion: Synthesis, Structure, and Bonding of [PdBr(PPh3)2]− Ligated by an N-Heterocyclic Phosphenium Cation

2009

Unsaturated N-heterocyclic phosphenium cations (uNHP) stabilize the [Pd0(PR3)2X]− anion proposed over the past decade to be the crucial but elusive intermediate in palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions (X = halide). Insertion of metal into the P−Br bond of the precursor mesityl-substituted bromophosphine gives the structurally characterized Pd(0)-phosphenium complex (uNHPMes)Pd(PPh3)2Br, which features a long Pd−Br bond (2.7240(9) A) and the shortest known Pd−P bond (2.1166(17) A). The reaction is proposed to proceed by an associative pathway involving a Pd-bromophosphine complex that undergoes P-to-Pd bromide transfer.

In silico, spectroscopic, and biological insights on annelated pyrrolo[3,2-e]pyrimidines with antiproliferative activity

2013

The in silico COMPARE analysis was performed on 8-[3-(piperidino)propyl]-4,10-dimethyl-9-phenyl-6-(methylsulfanyl)-3,4-dihydropyrimido[1,2-c]pyrrolo[3,2-e]pyrimidin-2(8H)-one, a compound with promising antiproliferative activity, previously synthetized and screened against a panel of 60 human tumor cell lines. The results evidenced that this compound matches the biological properties of Chromomycin A3 and Actinomycin D, known drugs with high DNA binding affinity. Prompted by such results, a thorough spectroscopic investigation of its DNA aqueous solutions was performed, with the aim to verify its DNA-binding properties. DNA groove-binding interaction was assigned by UV-vis spectrophotometri…

Hydrogen bond-stabilised N-alkylammonium resorcinarene halide cavitands

2010

A family of hydrogen bond-stabilised N-alkylammonium resorcinarene chloride and bromide cavitands were synthesised and characterised with 1H NMR and ESI mass spectrometry. The seven compounds exhibit interestingly either self-inclusion or guest complexation in the solid state evidenced by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The four dimers show self-inclusion of the upper rim propyl chains and consist of two hydrogen-bonded resorcinarene tetracations and six halide anions, while the remaining two halide anions are located in between the dimers linking them via hydrogen bonding. Small solvent molecules such as dichloromethane, methanol, n-butanol or chloroform are complexed into the resorcinar…

In situ analysis of suspensions of calcium silicate hydrate : application to the study of ionics interactions at the surface of the particules

2014

This project aims to study the interactions between calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and different anions (chlorides, bromides, nitrates and sulfates) in order to build a thermodynamic model and then be predictable. The simplified system CaO-SiO2-H2O is studied by synthesizing C-S-H suspensions and mixing them with different kind of salts (calcium salt or alkali salt). The influence of the temperature and the presence of aluminum in the structure of the C-S-H is also examined.A classical way to investigate this kind of system is to separate the liquid phase from the solid phase in order to analyze them separately. Nevertheless, this step has a large influence on the system, and the experime…

Mammalian glial cells in culture synthesize acetylcholine.

1997

In the present study we demonstrate that acetylcholine is synthesized by cultured mammalian glial cells identified by cell-type specific markers. Primary cultures of rat brain astrocytes or microglia contained 2.0 and 1.6 pmol acetylcholine/10(6) cells on average respectively. Astrocyte cultures established from neonatal mouse brain contained even more acetylcholine (about 80 pmol acetylcholine/10(6) cells). Primary cultures of rat brain astrocytes showed choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) enzyme activity of 3 nmol/mg protein/h; ChAT activity was blocked by 10 microM bromoacetylcholine. In conclusion, these data demonstrate the synthesis of the "neurotransmitter" acetylcholine in cultured gli…

Interaction of polyelectrolytes with oppositely charged micelles studied by fluorescence and liquid chromatography

2005

It is studied by spectrofluorimetry the association of ionized cationic micelles (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAB) with oppositely charged polyelectrolyte [sodium poly(styrenesulfonate), PSSNa]. CTAB provokes a change in the fluorescence intensity emitted by PSSNa. The investigated surfactants form micelle-like aggregates before critical micellar concentration (CMC). Two approaches (binding and partition equilibrium) are used to obtain the association constant, KA, number of CTAB molecules in a binding site, N, and apparent partition coefficient, Γ. Analysis of the parameters as a function of polymer concentration and ionic strength μ is performed. The effect of μ shows an enhancement …

Microwave-assisted extraction of polybrominated diphenyl ethers and polychlorinated naphthalenes concentrated on semipermeable membrane devices

2006

Abstract Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) has been evaluated as an alternative to dialysis for the extraction of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) sampled by semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs), using gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS–MS). For MAE optimization a two level full factorial design 2 3 , plus a centre point, which involves 11 randomized runs was used. The results showed that the temperature had a significant influence on the extraction of the nine PBDEs and four PCNs tested. Also, the solvent volume had a positive influence on the extraction of PBDEs and PCNs, but only in latter compounds, it achieves…

Gas phase chromatography of halides of elements 104 and 105

1992

On-line isothermal gas phase chromatography was used to study halides of261104 (T1/2=65 s) and262,263105 (T1/2=34 s and 27 s) produced an atom-at-a time via the reactions248Cm(18O, 5n) and249Bk(18O, 5n, 4n), respectively. Using HBr and HCl gas as halogenating agents, we were able to produce volatile bromides and chlorides of the above mentioned elements and study their behavior compared to their lighter homologs in Groups 4 or 5 of the periodic table. Element 104 formed more volatile bromide than its homolog Hf. In contrast, element 105 bromides were found to be less volatile than the bromides of the group 5 elements Nb and Ta. Both 104 and Hf chlorides were observed to be more volatile tha…

Micellar versus hydro-organic reversed-phase liquid chromatography: a solvation parameter-based perspective.

2007

The performance of the solvation parameter model is examined for micellar liquid chromatography. The results are compared with those offered with hydro-organic eluents, intending to reveal the properties that influence the retention and distinguish the particular behaviour of micellar systems. The retention data of several series of non-ionisable and ionisable compounds (mainly steroids, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, phenols, sulfonamides, beta-blockers, phenethylamines, antihistamines, and diuretics) were used as probe compounds. The micellar mobile phases contained an anionic (sodium dodecyl sulphate), non-ionic (Brij-35), or cationic (cetyltrimethylamonium bromide) surfactant, with or witho…
