Arthroscopic approach for treating a pigmented villonodular sinovitis of TMJ. A case report

The present report describes the case of a 29-year-old man referred to our service for TMJ pain and progressive reduction of the mouth opening. Differential diagnostics included rheumatologic diseases, monoarthritis and intraarticular lumps. In this line, a face CT scan and a MRI of TMJ were carried out in order to ensure a proper diagnosis. These tests showed a solid lesion into the joint cavity. In view of that, we decided to perform a diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy of TMJ. Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant tumor of bone but only 5% of these tumours occur in the jaws. Of all the varieties of osteosarcoma, the juxtacortical type is rare and comprises only less than 4% of all osteosarcomas. Juxtacortical osteosarcoma is further subdivided into parosteal (low grade) and periosteal (high grade). The Cockayne syndrome B (CSB) gene product is involved in the repair of various types of base modifications in actively transcribed DNA sequences. To investigate its significance for the repair of endogenous oxidative DNA damage, homozygous csb(-/-)/ogg1(-/-) double knockout mice were generated. These combine the deficiency of CSB with that of OGG1, a gene coding for the mammalian repair glycosylase that initiates the base excision repair of 7,8-dihydro-8-oxoguanine (8-oxoG). Abstract Background and objectives Temporomandibular disorders have a multifactorial etiology and involve the masticatory muscles, temporomandibular joint and associated structures. Therefore, different treatments are proposed and used. The aim of this paper is the use of acupuncture to treat temporomandibular disorders and associated symptoms. This article presents a clinical case study of a 39-year-old patient who presented temporomandibular disorders and headache of muscular origin. Leflunomide is a member of the disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs group used as a treatment modality in active rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis. “Oral ulcers” are reported in 3-5% of leflunomide medicated rheumatoid arthritis patients with adverse events, but they are not described in detail in the literature. We present a case of an ulcer in the tongue of a rheumatoid arthritis patient managed with leflunomide and contemplate on its pathogenesis. Key words:Leflunomide, oral ulcer, DHODH.

Abstract Sciatic nerve damage is a well-known complication that occurs in 1.5% of patients after primary total hip arthroplasty and in 8% after revision total hip arthroplasty. Yet when considering re-revision arthroplasty and acetabular cage implantation, incidence and management remain unclear. This case report describes a young female patient with sciatic nerve impingement after acetabular cage implantation. Abstract Spontaneous ruptures of the extensor mechanism of the knee are very rare. They tend to increase considerably in patients with metabolic diseases such as chronic renal failure, hyperparathyroidism, diabetes, gout, and systemic lupus erythematosus. The reported case regards a 48-year-old man with chronic, spontaneous and simultaneous quadriceps, and contra-lateral patellar tendon rupture. The patient suffered from chronic renal failure and for the past year from tertiary hyperparathyroidism. Ruptured tendons were repaired and both knee were evaluated monthly for the next 12 months.
