The construction of inequalities between girls and boys of success in physical education at the baccalaureate between girls and boys

2004

This research investigates the effect of social and school processes on explanation of the achievement's differences between girls and boys in PE, particularly when they are assessed in team sports in secondary education. The performances of girls often are lower than those of boys. Traditionally, the differentiated performances may be attributed to physiological or sociological reasons. The object of this research, conducted about 1245 pupils and theirs PE teachers, was to focus on a possible differential treatment at school between girls and boys. Teacher's perceptions about sport as a male domain influence the process in which girls receive at school a poorest learning. The relative fail…

COMPREHENSIVE TEACHER’S PROFESSIONALISM FOR CONTENT AND LANGUAGE INTEGRATED PROVISION

2019

T opicality of the problem is determined by several factors as well as the amendments on the Education Law and the General Education Law, which provide for a gradual transition to the acquisition of general secondary education in Latvian only, educational content reform and teachers experience to work in an ethnically and linguistically heterogeneous environment. The aim of the study is to analyse comprehensive school teachers theoretical background and practice experience to work in the content and language integrated teaching and learning approach. Because language not a subject only but a mean of acquiring other subjects in the comprehensive school, too, all teachers need theoretical kno…

Seeking Information on Social Commerce: An Examination of the Impact of User- and Marketer-generated Content Through an Eye-tracking Study

2021

Following the growing popularity of social commerce sites, there is an increased interest in understanding how consumers decide what products to purchase based on the available information. Consumers nowadays are confronted with the task of assessing marketer-generated (MGC) as well as user-generated information (UGC) in a range of different forms to make informed purchase-related decisions. This study examines the information types and forms that influence consumers in their decision-making process on social commerce. Building on uses and gratifications and dual-process theories, we distinguish between marketer and user generated content, and differentiate formats into informational and no…

The Mediatization of E-Campaigning: Evidence From German Party Websites in State, National, and European Parliamentary Elections 2002-2009

2012

The rise of e-campaigning is often associated with its ability to circumvent journalistic principles of news selection and presentation. By this, parties and candidates are said to free themselves from the discretionary power of the mass media and to reach voters in an unfiltered way. This conventional wisdom is tested through a comparative content analysis of German party websites in state, national, and European parliamentary elections between 2002 and 2009. The results show that e-campaigns in all elections adhere in their messages to the media logic. Specifically, they replicate those patterns of offline coverage that have been held accountable for rising political alienation and civic …

Does the law matter? An empirical study on the accessibility of Finnish higher education institutions’ web pages

2022

AbstractInformation and communication technology (ICT) has made higher education available to many students in a new way. The role of online learning in higher education institutions (HEIs) has grown to an unprecedented scale due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The diversity of higher education students has increased, and accessible solutions are needed. New European and national regulations support these trends. The research reported in this paper was conducted in Finland, which is one of the leading European countries in terms of high technology and digitalisation. The aim of this research is to explore the accessibility of all Finnish HEIs’ (N = 38) landing pages based on Web Content Accessibi…

Energy Efficient Resource Allocation and User Scheduling for Collaborative Mobile Clouds with Hybrid Receivers

2014

In this paper, we study the resource allocation and user scheduling algorithm for minimizing the energy cost of data transmission in the context of OFDMA collaborative mobile cloud (CMC) with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) receivers. The CMC, which consists of several collaborating MTs offers one potential solution for downlink content distribution and for the energy consumption reduction at the terminal side. Meanwhile, as RF signal can carry both information and energy simultaneously, the induced SWIPT has gained much attention for energy efficiency design of mobile nodes. Previous work on the design of CMC system mainly focused on the cloud formulation or en…

Out-of-Band Signaling Scheme for High Speed Wireless LANs

2007

In recent years, the physical layer data rate provided by 802.11 Wireless LANs has dramatically increased thanks to significant advances in the modulation and coding techniques employed. However, previous studies show that the 802.11 MAC operation, namely the distributed coordination function (DCF), represents a limiting factor: the throughput efficiency drops as the channel bit rate increases, and a throughput upper limit does indeed exist when the channel bit rate goes to infinite high. These findings indicate that the performance of the DCF protocol will not be efficiently improved by merely increasing the channel bit rate. This paper shows that the DCF performance may significantly bene…

Lists of Spanish sentences with equivalent predictability, phonetic content, length, and frequency of the last word.

2010

This paper presents a pool of Spanish sentences designed for use in cognitive research and speech processing in circumstances in which the effects of context are relevant. These lists of sentences are divided into six lists of 25 equivalent high-predictability sentences and six lists of 25 low-predictability sentences according to the extent to which the last word can be predicted by the preceding context. These lists were also equivalent in phonetic content, length and frequency of the last word. These lists are intended for use in psycholinguistic research with Spanish-speaking listeners.

A naive relevance feedback model for content-based image retrieval using multiple similarity measures

2010

This paper presents a novel probabilistic framework to process multiple sample queries in content based image retrieval (CBIR). This framework is independent from the underlying distance or (dis)similarity measures which support the retrieval system, and only assumes mutual independence among their outcomes. The proposed framework gives rise to a relevance feedback mechanism in which positive and negative data are combined in order to optimally retrieve images according to the available information. A particular setting in which users interactively supply feedback and iteratively retrieve images is set both to model the system and to perform some objective performance measures. Several repo…
