2011
Among a set of objects accidentally discovered in 2003 at Chalonnes- sur-Loire (Maine-et-Loire, France), a Middle Bronze Age hoard has been identified. The other objects, including a triangular side scraper, are dated from the Late Bronze Age and will be studied later. These eleven Middle Bronze Age objects (called "the Belvédère set" in this paper) are two frag- ments of chisels, a fragment of the handle of another flanged tool, a fragment of the handle of a flanged axe belonging to an eastern type (Porcieu-Amblagneu or Langquaid or some variants), two fluted flanged axes with a rare lateral pattern, two simple undecorated bracelets, and three pieces of bracelets of the Drône type. They…
2019
“Travailler plus pour gagner plus” (“Work more to earn more”) was a slogan of right-wing candidate Nicolas Sarkozy during the 2007 French presidential election, which proposed exempting overtime working hours from taxation. In this article, I develop a cultural analysis of this political slogan. Its linguistic interest lies in its poetic and theatrical dimensions. The slogan is embedded in a rich cultural context: it refers to a doxa in right-wing discourse, according to which the “social model” should be replaced with a liberal model that also rescues the “value of work”. It responded to voter economic and social concerns, which were supported by the media. Through such strong slogans, Nic…
Conceptualizing and Measuring the Perceived Value of an Arts Venue as Applied to Live Performance
2008
International audience; This paper mobilizes the concept of value to investigate the influence of physical surroundings on artistic experiences. First the literature on value is reviewed to ascertain just how useful the concept is for understanding the physical environment. The use of the concept supplements other research perspectives on the issue of physical surroundings (sensorial marketing, appropriation). There follows a presentation of the various stages in constructing a scale of perceived value applied to live performances. The paper concludes with a discussion of results (contributions, management implications, research limits, and avenues for further inquiry).
Qui dit Noël dit cadeaux: critical reading of an article by Kentaro Koga (2020)
2022
While noting the significant peculiarities of the construction Qui dit Noël dit cadeau, Kentaro Koga has launched a series of research on all the infrastructures of this construction, with the aim of revealing their internal organization and identifying their possible lexical and syntactic variations. This article – « Qui dit Noël dit cadeau : modèle, variation et idées conventionnelles » – by Kentaro Koga, established from his own collection of linguistic data, studies the uses of the construction qui dit X dit Y in the French nowadays. Nevertheless, it seems that his conclusions are more or less arbitrary, which il the reason why we will re-examine this construction from other hermeneutic…
