Icosahedral dsDNA Bacterial Viruses with an Internal Membrane

2008

The icosahedral double-stranded DNA bacteriophages containing an internal membrane belong to two families, the Tectiviridae and the Corticoviridae. Members of the Tectiviridae have a linear dsDNA genome (e.g., PRD1) and those of the Corticoviridae have a circular genome (the only example being PM2). The DNA is covered by a membrane which is in turn covered by a protein capsid. The infection cycle begins when spikes on the capsid recognize the host cell receptor and the virus starts the delivery of the genome into the cell cytoplasm. The replication of the virus genome occurs in the cytoplasm. The members of the Tectiviridae may be virulent or temperate; PM2 is virulent. Virulent bacteriopha…

BODIPY Dyes Functionalized with Pendant Cyclic and Acyclic Polyamines

2013

The synthesis and characterization of a series of BODIPY derivatives substituted with acyclic and cyclic polyamines, in particular, cyclen and homocyclen, are reported. The 19F NMR, UV/Vis, and fluorescence spectroscopic data of these compounds are discussed. One compound was found to be very selective for CuII ions, which makes it a very promising system for CuII detection.

Pd-catalyzed amination in the synthesis of cyclen-based macrotricycles

2012

Abstract Three approaches to three types of cyclen-based macrotricycles have been elaborated starting from trans-bis(3-bromobenzyl)cyclen. The macrotricycles were synthesized via Pd-catalyzed amination. The first approach employed consecutive macrocyclization and benzylation steps giving a cage-like tricycle. In the second, cyclen amino groups were Boc-protected prior to formation of the second and the third rings. In the third method, macrotricycles were synthesized according to a one-step procedure using diazacrown ethers.

Linking food webs to ecosystem processes: Piecewise linear models of soil microcosms

2008

Abstract A piecewise linear approach to link decomposer biomass and soil nitrogen dynamics is proposed. Dynamics of a detritus–fungus–nematode food chain were studied in a microcosm experiment and modelled to evaluate the role of fungal-feeding nematodes in N mineralization. The nematode dynamics switched from exponential growth to a resource-limited phase. At the same time the amount of ammonium nitrogen in soil started to increase, following an initial immobilization phase. Both nematode and ammonium dynamics could be described by two-phase linear equations. Two nitrogen models were compared. A model in which the nematode accounted for all mineralization could be fitted to the ammonium da…

Evaluation of remote sensing of vegetation fluorescence by the analysis of diurnal cycles

2008

Chlorophyll fluorescence (ChF) emission is a direct indicator of the photosynthetic activity of vegetation, which is a key parameter of the carbon cycle. This paper analyses chlorophyll fluorescence evolution at leaf level during a complete diurnal cycle in simulated and natural conditions, for two species under different stress conditions. Absolute spectral radiance of the ChF emission is obtained allowing a quantitative derivation of the fluorescence yield of the ChF, which correlates well with established fluorescence instruments. The studied cases show that the ChF emission is mainly driven by the photosynthetic active radiation during the whole cycle, but the fluorescence yield is seve…

C-H Bond Arylation of Pyrazoles at the β-Position: General Conditions and Computational Elucidation for a High Regioselectivity

2021

International audience; Direct arylation of most five-membered ring heterocycles are generally easily accessible and strongly favored at the α-position using classical palladium-catalysis. Conversely, regioselective functionalization of such heterocycles at the concurrent β-position remains currently very challenging. Herein, we report general conditions for regioselective direct arylation at the β-position of pyrazoles, while C-H α-position is free. By using aryl bromides as the aryl source and a judicious choice of solvent, the arylation reaction of variously N-substituted pyrazoles simply proceeds via β-C-H bond functionalization. The β-regioselectivity is promoted by a ligand-free palla…

Abundance and activity of nitrate reducers in an arable soil are more affected by temporal variation and soil depth than by elevated atmospheric [CO2]

2011

Elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations ([CO2]) might change the abundance and the function of soil microorganisms in the depth profile of agricultural soils by plant-mediated reactions. The seasonal pattern of abundance and activity of nitrate-reducing bacteria was studied in a Mini-FACE experiment planted with oilseed rape (Brassica napus). Three depths (0–10, 10–20 and 20–30 cm) were sampled. Analyses of the abundances of total (16S rRNA gene) and nitrate-reducing bacteria (narG, napA) revealed strong influences of sampling date and depth, but no [CO2] effects. Abundance and activity of nitrate reducers were higher in the top soil layer and decreased with depth but were not re…

A Versatile Palladium/Triphosphane System for Direct Arylation of Heteroarenes with Chloroarenes at Low Catalyst Loading

2010

International audience; Put a ring on it: The use of an air-stable, robust palladium/tridentate phosphane catalyst in direct C[BOND]H and C[BOND]Cl activation reactions is reported (see scheme; DMAc=N,N-dimethylacetamide, TBAB=tetra-n-butylammonium bromide). Electron-rich, electron-poor, and polysubstituted furans (X=O), thiophenes (X=S), pyrroles (X=NR5), and thiazoles were arylated with chloroarenes in the presence of the catalyst.

A New pH-Dependent Macrocyclic Rhodamine B-Based Fluorescent Probe for Copper Detection in White Wine

2019

For efficiently measuring copper (II) ions in the acidic media of white wine, a new chemosensor based on rhodamine B coupled to a tetraazamacrocyclic ring (13aneN4CH2NH2) was designed and synthesized by a one-pot reaction using ethanol as a green solvent. The obtained chemosensor was characterized via NMR, UV and fluorescent spectra. It was marked with no color emission under neutral pH conditions, with a pink color emission under acidic conditions, and a magenta color emission under acidic conditions where copper (II) ions were present. The sensitivity towards copper (II) ions was tested and verified over Ca2+, Ag+, Zn2+, Mg2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Fe2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, Fe3+, and Mn2+, with a detection…

Ring-opening metathesis of some strained bicyclic systems; stereocontrolled access to diolefinated saturated heterocycles with multiple stereogenic c…

2018

Ring-opening metathesis (ROM) of various unsaturated, constrained bicyclic ring systems has been investigated with the use of commercial ruthenium-based catalysts. Starting from various cyclodienes, the corresponding derived bicyclic lactone, lactam, and isoxazoline derivatives were submitted to ROM under ethenolysis. These functionalized, strained bicyclic systems afforded novel highly-functionalized diolefinated heterocyclic scaffolds in ROM reactions with stereocontrol, through the conservation of the configuration of the stereogenic centers of the starting compounds.
