Problems Involved in the Measurement of Microcirculation by Means of Microelectrodes

1973

Until now, the interpretation of local wash-out curves, measured by means of microelectrodes and using hydrogen as diffusible indicator, is an unsettled problem. It has been shown, that even the simultaneous measurement by means of a surface-multiwire-Pt-microelectrode at the isolated and hemoglobin-free perfused rat liver yields different wash-out curves (4). These differences occur with regard to the height of the curves as well as to the moment, when the maximum of the indicator’s concentration is seen by the microelectrode. Fig.1 represents four simultaneously recorded curves. The difference in sensitivity of each micro-electrode has been compensated by a computer. The fast curve corres…

A method for high-resolution in-beam studies of internal pair transitions

1978

Abstract A combination intermediate-image magnetic plus Si(Li) electron spectrometer has been adapted to internal pair formation measurements of cyclotron-induced reactions. The system is especially intended for the study of E0 transitions in the energy range from 1.5 to 8.6 MeV and to measurements of coincidences between internal pairs and heavy particles. The method is based on the fact that the electron and the positron spiral from the target to the detector simultaneously, the sense of rotation being of opposite sign. The energies of the particles are summed in a high-resolution cooled Si(Li) detector. Calculations of the spectrometer pair-line efficiency for E0 transitions versus trans…

Determination of the θ23 octant in long baseline neutrino experiments within and beyond the standard model

2018

The recent data indicate that the neutrino mixing angle θ 23 deviates from the maximal-mixing value of 45°, showing two nearly degenerate solutions, one in the lower octant (LO) ( θ 23 4 5 ° ). We investigate, using numerical simulations, the prospects for determining the octant of θ 23 in the future long baseline oscillation experiments. We present our results as contour plots on the ( θ 23 − 4 5 ° , δ )–plane, where δ is the C P phase, showing the true values of θ 23 for which the octant can be experimentally determined at 3 σ , 2 σ and 1 σ confidence level. In particular, we study the impact of the possible nonunitarity of neutrino mixing on the experimental determination of θ 23 in thos…

Optimization of quasi-hemispherical CdZnTe detectors by means of first principles simulation

2023

AbstractIn this paper we present the development of quasi-hemispherical gamma-ray detectors based on CdZnTe. Among the possible single-polarity electrode configurations, such as coplanar, pixelated, or virtual Frisch-grid geometries, quasi-hemispherical detectors are the most cost-effective alternative with comparable raw energy resolution in the high and low energy range. The optimal configuration of the sensor in terms of dimension of the crystals and electrode specifications has been first determined by simulations, and successively validated with experimental measures. Spectra from different sources have been acquired to evaluate the detectors performances. Three types of detectors with…

On Spatio-Temporal Saliency Detection in Videos using Multilinear PCA

2016

International audience; Visual saliency is an attention mechanism which helps to focus on regions of interest instead of processing the whole image or video data. Detecting salient objects in still images has been widely addressed in literature with several formulations and methods. However, visual saliency detection in videos has attracted little attention, although motion information is an important aspect of visual perception. A common approach for obtaining a spatio-temporal saliency map is to combine a static saliency map and a dynamic saliency map. In this paper, we extend a recent saliency detection approach based on principal component analysis (PCA) which have shwon good results wh…

Multipactor Effect in a Parallel-Plate Waveguide Partially Filled With Magnetized Ferrite

2014

The aim of this paper is the analysis of the multipactor effect in a parallel-plate waveguide when a ferrite slab, transversally magnetized by a static magnetic field parallel to the waveguide walls, is present. Employing an in-house developed code, numerical simulations are performed to predict the multipactor radio frequency voltage threshold in such a ferrite-loaded waveguide. Variations of the ferrite magnetization field strength and the ferrite slab height are analyzed. Effective electron trajectories are also shown for a better understanding of the breakdown phenomenon, finding different multipactor regimes.
