Exclusive ϱ0 and φ muoproduction at large Q2

1994

Abstract Exclusive ϱ 0 and φ muoproduction on deuterium, carbon and calcium has been studied in the kinematic range 2 Q 2 2 and 40 Q 2 dependence of the cross sections, the transverse momentum distributions for the vector mesons, the decay angular distributions and, in the case of the ϱ 0 , nuclear effects. The data for 0 production are compatible with a diffractive mechanism. The distinct features of φ production are a smaller cross section and less steep p t 2 distributions than those for the 0 mesons.

Dark Matter and the Seesaw Scale

2018

We discuss the possibility to find an upper bound on the seesaw scale using the cosmological bound on the cold dark matter relic density. We investigate a simple relation between the origin of neutrino masses and the properties of a dark matter candidate in a simple theory where the new symmetry breaking scale defines the seesaw scale. Imposing the cosmological bounds, we find an upper bound of order multi-TeV on the lepton number violation scale. We investigate the predictions for direct and indirect detection dark matter experiments, and the possible signatures at the Large Hadron Collider.

A Brief Discussion on the Performance of the MoEDAL and the LHCf Experiments

2018

The Monopole and Exotics Detector at the LHC (MoEDAL) experiment is an experiment dedicated to searching for beyond standard model (BSM) particles like magnetic monopoles, highly ionizing particles and slow-moving supersymmetric particles. In many ways, this detector complements the BSM searches of ATLAS and CMS. In this document, a brief description of the MoEDAL detector and performance is given. The Large Hadron Collider Forward (LHCf) experiment, on the other hand, is dedicated to measuring the neutral particles produced in the hadronic collision in the very forward region. This document also briefly discusses the LHCf detector and its performance.

Quark model predictions for the SU(6)-breaking ratio of the proton momentum distributions

2003

The ratio between the anomalous magnetic moments of proton and neutron has been recently parametrized by the ratio of proton momentum fractions $M_{2}^{q_{val}}$. This ratio is evaluated using different constituent quark models, starting from the CQM density distributions and calculating the next-to leading order distributions. We show that this momentum fractions $M_{2}^{q_{val}}$ ratio is a sensitive test for SU(6)-breaking effects and therefore it is useful to distinguish among different CQMs. We investigate also the possibility of getting constraints on the formulation of quark structure models.

Resonances in QCD

2015

We report on the EMMI Rapid Reaction Task Force meeting 'Resonances in QCD', which took place at GSI October 12-14, 2015. A group of 26 people met to discuss the physics of resonances in QCD. The aim of the meeting was defined by the following three key questions: What is needed to understand the physics of resonances in QCD? Where does QCD lead us to expect resonances with exotic quantum numbers? What experimental efforts are required to arrive at a coherent picture? For light mesons and baryons only those with ${\it up}$, ${\it down}$ and ${\it strange}$ quark content were considered. For heavy-light and heavy-heavy meson systems, those with ${\it charm}$ quarks were the focus. This docum…

A measurement of material in the ATLAS tracker using secondary hadronic interactions in 7 TeV pp collisions

2016

Knowledge of the material in the ATLAS inner tracking detector is crucial in understanding the reconstruction of charged-particle tracks, the performance of algorithms that identify jets containing b-hadrons and is also essential to reduce background in searches for exotic particles that can decay within the inner detector volume. Interactions of primary hadrons produced in pp collisions with the material in the inner detector are used to map the location and amount of this material. The hadronic interactions of primary particles may result in secondary vertices, which in this analysis are reconstructed by an inclusive vertex-finding algorithm. Data were collected using minimum-bias trigger…
