<title>Amorphous chalcogenide thin films as a media for holographic recording</title>
2004
The amorphous As2S3 and As40S15Se45 films as a recording media for optical holography and lithography were studied. The results on research of the transmission, surface-relief and Bragg reflection grating holographic recording and readout conditions are presented. The recording of transmission holographic gratings in As40S15Se45 films was performed by He-Ne (0.6328 μm) laser beam, while the redout of the diffraction efficiency was made at Bragg agle using diode (0.805 μm) laser lines. The Bragg reflection gratings in As2S3 films were recorded and studied by Ar+ laser line 0.5145 μm. The surface-relief modulated gratings with a period of 0.15 μm - 1 μm were recorded.© (2004) COPYRIGHT SPIE--…
Silicon germanium platform enabling mid-infrared to near-infrared conversion for telecom and sensing applications
2014
This paper presents the potential of silicon germanium waveguides in the nonlinear conversion of light from mid-infrared wavelengths to the telecom band utilizing four-wave mixing. Design aspects and first characterization results of fabricated devices are presented.
Combined heat and power generation with a HCPV system at 2000 suns
2015
In the framework of the FAE “Fotovoltaico ad Alta Efficienza” (“High Efficiency Photovoltaic”) Research Project funded by the Sicilian Region under the program PO FESR Sicilia 2007/2013 4.1.1.1, we have developed an innovative solar CHP system for the combined production of heat and power at the high concentration level of 2000 suns [1]. This work shows the experimental results obtained on FAE-HCPV modules and analyses the behaviour of the system. The solar radiation is concentrated on commercial InGaP/InGaAs/Ge triple-junction solar cells designed for intensive work. The primary optics is a rectangular off-axis parabolic mirror (with a size of 46x46 = 2116 cm2 in a projection normal to the…
Optical thermal filters for eXTP: manufacturing and characterization
2020
In order to ensure the effective detection of X-ray astronomical detectors by blocking ultraviolet, visible and infrared light, adding optical thermal filter in front of the load is an effective method. According to the scientific requirements of eXTP, optical thermal filters with aluminized polyimide (PI) film structure had been designed and tested in this paper, the results of mechanical tests including burst pressure, vibration and acoustic tests, also the transparent properties of optics in UV, Vis and IR lights are presented. The mechanical test results show that the filters for LAD and SFA can't pass the acoustic tests, causing the thickness of PI should be increased or a nickel mesh …
Enhancing the sensitivity of nano-FTIR spectroscopy.
2017
Synchrotron radiation-based nano-FTIR spectroscopy utilizes the highly brilliant and ultra-broadband infrared (IR) radiation provided by electron storage rings for the infrared spectroscopic characterization of samples at the nanoscale. In order to exploit the full potential of this approach we investigated the influence of the properties of the radiation source, such as the electron bunch shape and spectral bandwidth of the emitted radiation, on near-field infrared spectra of silicon-carbide (SiC). The adapted configuration of the storage ring optics enables a modification of the transverse electron bunch profile allowing an increase of the measured near-field signal amplitude. Additionall…

Raman Studies of Photorefractive Lithium Niobate Single Crystals
2014
A study of Raman spectra of lithium niobate single crystals: stoichiometric, ostensibly pure congruent LiNbO3, and congruent LiNbO3 containing admixture of yttrium is reported. Raman bands observed in spectra excited by visible laser radiation are thoroughly compared to the same bands excited by infrared laser radiation. The broadening of Raman bands excited by radiation of shorter wavelengths is attributed to photo-refraction induced by visible radiation (514 nm) while being absent under infrared radiation (1064 nm). Attributing the effect of photo-refraction to radiation-induced structural changes in the illuminated part of the crystal lattice the authors interpret the observed broadening…
Infrared microspectroscopy of biochemical response of living cells in microfabricated devices
2010
Abstract First experiments demonstrating the suitability of novel microfabricated fluidic devices for measuring living cells in physiological environment by synchrotron radiation (SR) Fourier Transform Infrared microspectroscopy (μ-FTIR) are presented. The devices were fabricated on CaF 2 windows, using the photoresist XARP 3100/10 to define the liquid cell lay-out. Therefore, the sample holder is transparent to both visible and infrared light, robust, completely recyclable and with a precise spacing. Using prototype devices of thicknesses 9, 5 and 3 μm, we studied the response of the U937 monocytic cell line to mechanical compression. The temporal evolution of the FTIR spectra, characteris…
Analysis of multi-spectral photoplethysmograph biosensors
2013
Multi-spectral photoplethysmograph biosensor intended for analysis of peripheral blood volume pulsations at different vascular depths has been experimentally tested. Light emitting diodes with four different wavelengths were used as the light emitters. A single photodiode with multi-channel signal output processing was used as the light detector. This study analyzed rising time difference between wavelengths at systole maximum, wavelengths relations between systole and diastole peak difference. The proposed methodology is discussed.
Exploring 10 Gb/s transmissions in Titanium dioxide based waveguides at 1.55 pm and 2.0 pm
2017
Exploring new spectral bands for optical transmission is one of the solutions to support the increasingly demand of data traffic. The recent development of dedicated hollow-core photonic bandgap fibers [1], associated to the emergence of thulium doped fiber amplifiers [2] has recently focused the attention further in the infrared, and more specifically around 2 μm. Regarding integrated photonics, it becomes therefore interesting to find a suitable platform to operate at 2 μm as well as in the other more conventional spectral bands (going from 800 nm to 1550 nm). Here, we propose titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) as a good candidate for integrated waveguide photonics and demonstrate, for the first t…
