La Unión Europea y el urbanismo valenciano. ¿Conflicto jurídico o político?

2009

This paper explains the origin, evolution, causes, and consequences of the unusual conflict started in 2005 between the European Parliament and urban policies of the Comunidad Valenciana that has ended up extending to the national level. In particular it seeks to demonstrate how legal and poli…

Responses of European lobster (Homarus gammarus) and lobster fishers to protective management

2017

Master's thesis Aquatic Ecology BIO500 - University of Agder 2017 Marine protected areas (MPAs) are valued for their conservation benefits to harvested species. However, potential benefits of MPAs to neighboring fisheries are less well-understood. This study quantifies how the European lobster (Homarus gammarus) and the fishery for this valued catch respond to the establishment of a relatively small (5.2 km2) MPA on the Norwegian Skagerrak coast. A series of yearly standardized trap surveys was conducted to estimate lobster abundance and catch weights both inside and outside the MPA before (2010- 2011) and after the MPA was established (2012-2016). Lobster abundance and catch weights were d…

The presented projects are part of the national program "Research on the Internationalisation of Vocational Education and Training", funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). An adapted version of Urie Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory forms the conceptual framework of the special issue. The four system levels (micro, meso, exo and macro) are addressed by one article each. The article on the microsystem level focuses on the intended and implemented c…

El laberinto de la sucesión de estados respecto de los tratados internacionales sobre derechos humanos

2021

This Article analyses the effects of succession of States in respect of international treaties on human rights. This is a matter not codified by the Vienna Convention on Succession of States in respect of Treaties. We have to bear in mind that human rights treaties have been adopted by international organisations, which have developed their own practice both for the succession of States as States Members of an international organisation and for the succession of States as Contracting Parties to treaties that the United Nations, the Council of Europe or the European Union have adopted in the field of human rights.

Humora tulkošanas stratēģijas teorijā un praksē

2019

Decentralization in Ukraine and Bottom-Up European Integration

2020

Decentralization is one of the most profound reforms undertaken in Ukraine. It includes the voluntary merging of previously independent villages and towns into larger Amalgamated Territorial Communities (ATCs). The European Union strongly supports the reform but does not make Ukraine’s further European integration conditional upon it. In order to study whether decentralization can, nevertheless, contribute to the country’s European integration, this chapter adopts a sociological perspective. It asks whether decentralization has led to an increase in community twinning and participation of Ukrainian communities in transnational municipal networks. It is based on a survey conducted among the …

THE THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF WELL-BEING IN THE CONTEXT OF LIFELONG LEARNING

2017

In 2006 the European Parliament and European Union Council has defined eight key competences for lifelong learning, necessary for personal fulfillment and development, active citizenship, social inclusion and employment. Currently at EU level, one of the most important debates closely connected with the basic context of lifelong learning is on the dimensions of life quality.

The desk study deals with the qualitative content analysis of the documents of EU, OECD, data of the projects of Office of National Statistics in Latvia, the U.K.…

The Fight Against Organized Crime. Amid Contrasting Strategies and Respect for Human Rights

2012

Regulatory interventions and the application of lessons from outcomes together with the renewed value of human rights in criminal proceedings demonstrate that the fight against organized crime at the European level requires constant attention to the balance between individual rights on the one hand and the need for an effective investigation on the other.
