Abstract Purpose: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 2% to 3% of all malignancies. It represents one of the most radiation- and chemotherapy-resistant tumors and surgical resections are only effective in organ-defined disease. However, RCC is an immunogenic tumor with response rates to immunotherapies between 10% and 20% of the treated patients. The effect of Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) on the rat bladder

Immunostimulation with agents such as BCG or KLH may represent an adjuvant therapy in treating patients with bladder cancer. To investigate the effects of direct instillation and injection of KLH into the bladder of sensitized and nonsensitized rats, KLH was injected submucosally into the bladder. Histologically, a marked inflammatory reaction was seen without ulcerations.

Abstract Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has been shown to respond to an immunological therapy with tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL), which accumulate in RCC at a higher density than in normal renal tissue, suggesting that there is selective tumor invasion. HLA class I loss or downregulation is a widespread mechanism used by tumor cells to avoid tumor recognition by cytotoxic T lymphocytes favoring tumor immune escape. Multiple molecular mechanisms are responsible for these altered HLA class I tumor phenotypes. It has been described in different epithelial tumors that loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at chromosome region 6p21.3 is a frequent mechanism that leads to HLA haplotype loss, ranging between 40 and 50%, depending on the tumor entity analyzed. Immunogenic properties of renal cell carcinoma and the pathogenesis of osteolytic bone metastases.

The immunogenic properties of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) on bone osteolysis were investigated. mRNA expression of three proinflammatory cytokines, monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-8 (IL-8), were determined in a panel of RCC lines (CRBM 1990, ACHN and Caki-1). Differential diagnosis of histogenetically distinct human epithelial renal tumours with a monoclonal antibody against gamma-glutamyltransferase.

The localization of membrane-bound gamma-glutamyltransferase with monoclonal antibody (mAb) 138H11 proved to be of value for differential diagnosis of renal cancer, since it correlated with the histogenetic profile of human epithelial renal tumors. Immunoreactive gamma-glutamyltransferase was located in the proximal tubule in all normal human kidneys (15/15) examined thus far by both ultrastructural and immunohistochemical techniques. From 68 epithelial renal cancers tested 31/31 clear-cell carcinomas and 15/16 chromophilic carcinomas expressed the target epitope of mAb 138H11. Loss of tumor suppressor protein PTEN during renal carcinogenesis

The tumor suppressor gene PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted from chromosome 10) encodes a dual specific protein and phospholipid phosphatase that affects cell proliferation, apoptosis and migration. In our study, we examined protein expression of PTEN in renal carcinogenesis. PTEN protein levels were examined in 42 clear cell renal cell carcinomas (ccRCC) and oncocytomas as well as in the corresponding normal renal tissue of the same patients using Western blot analysis. The goal of this study is to evaluate the benefit of a dual-time point imaging modality for the staging and restaging of PCa patients.
