Adolescents’ Stress and Depressive symptoms and Their Associations with Psychological Flexibility before Educational Transition
2023
Introduction: Relatively little is known about individual differences in adolescent psychological flexibility and its associations with symptoms of stress and depression. This study examined different profiles of adolescent stress and depressive symptoms and their associations with developing psychological flexibility before the critical educational transition. Methods: The data were derived from a general sample of 740 Finnish ninth-grade adolescents (Mage = 15.7 years, 57% female) who were assessed twice during the final grade of their basic education. The data were analyzed using growth mixture modeling. Results: Four profiles of stress and depressive symptoms were identified during a sc…

Metaforiset toimijuusneuvottelut yksilöpsykoterapiassa
2012
Tutkimuksessani selvitän vuorovaikutuksen mikroanalyysin avulla, millaista toimijuutta asiakkaalle yksilöpsykoterapiakeskustelussa tuotetaan. Tarkastelen toimijuutta osana keskustelun moraalista järjestystä: vastuun ottamista ja torjumista suhteessa keskustelun kohteena olevaan ongelmaan. Position käsitettä soveltaen osoitan, kuinka toimijuus näyttäytyy alati muuntuvana ilmiönä ja miten sen vaihtelua tuotetaan metaforisiksi toimijahahmoiksi kutsumieni keskustelukäytäntöjen avulla. Psykoterapian muutosprosessitutkimuksen sekä alan ammattilaisten osaamisen kannalta tulokset puhuvat keskustelullisen lähestymistavan sekä monipuolisen kielellisen vuorovaikutusosaamisen puolesta.
The role of linguistic and cognitive factors in emotion recognition difficulties in children with ASD, ADHD or DLD
2020
Abstract Background: Many children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or developmental language disorder (DLD) have difficulty recognizing and understanding emotions. However, the reasons for these difficulties are currently not well understood. Aims: To compare the emotion recognition skills of children with neurodevelopmental disorders as well as those children’s skills with the skills of their typically developing (TD) age peers. Also, to identify the role of underlying factors in predicting emotion recognition skills. Methods & Procedures: The 6–10‐year‐old children (n = 50) who participated in th…

Mitä filosofi tekee psykiatrisella klinikalla, Thomas Fuchs?
2019
Saksassa Heidelbergin yliopistoklinikalla on pitkät perinteet filosofian ja psykiatrian yhteistyölle. Fenomenologisen psykiatrian ja psykoterapian tutkimusyksikköä johtava professori Thomas Fuchs kertoo, miten fenomenologista tutkimusta tehdään psykiatrisessa sairaalassa ja kuinka hänen omat filosofiset sitoumuksensa tulevat esille potilastyössä. Keskustelumme klinikalla valotti hänen ajattelunsa pääpiirteitä kehollisuudesta, tunteiden filosofiasta ja tiedostamattomasta. Fuchs käsittää tunteet vuorovaikutteisina, ruumiillisina ja tilallisina ilmiöinä ja väittää, ettei tiedostamaton sijaitse psyyken syvyyksissä vaan on kehollisesti eletty ja koettu. nonPeerReviewed
Psychotherapists’ views on triggering factors for psychological disorders
2022
AbstractTriggering factors play an important role in the development of psychological disorders. Practicing psychotherapists have valuable knowledge on psychological disorders and since their views on triggering factors have not been reported in the literature, triggers were addressed in this study from psychotherapists’ perspectives. The following three main issues were examined: definitions of triggers, examples of the most recurrent triggers and the idea of a common trigger for psychological disorders. Sixteen psychotherapists agreed to participate in the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in person and the data collected were analyzed using frame analysis. Frame analysis a…
Validity of the compulsive exercise test in regular exercisers
2021
Measurement of compulsive exercise is important for the study of eating pathology in individuals who regularly participate in sport and exercise. The current study examined the factor structure, internal consistency and validity of the compulsive exercise test (CET) in regular exercisers. Participants were recruited via the internet and from sport clubs (n = 313 adults; M = 32 years; 57% female). A three-factor model for the CET was supported which included the weight control exercise, avoidance and rule-driven behaviour, and mood improvement subscales (fit statistics for the three-factor model: χ2SB = 4.39; CFI = .95; NNFI = .94, RMSEA = .100, 95% CI: .093—.110, AIC = 656.92). The subscale…
