FC 079HIGH SERUM PHOSPHATE, A NOVEL POTENTIAL RISK FACTOR FOR BONE FRAGILITY FRACTURES IN THE COSMOS STUDY

2021

Abstract Background and Aims Bone fragility fractures (bone fractures) are extremely frequent in haemodialysis (HD) patients. Serum phosphate (P) has been suggested as a risk factor for bone fracture, nonetheless, evidence is poor. The aim of this study was to assess the association between incidence of bone fractures and serum phosphate (P), calcium (Ca) and parathyroid hormone (PTH) in patients from the COSMOS study. Method COSMOS is an observational, prospective, open cohort study with 3 years of follow-up including 6797 haemodialysis patients from 227 centres randomly selected from 20 European countries. At baseline, demographics, comorbidities, treatments, serum biochemical parameters …

The quantitative determination of metabolites of 6-mercaptopurine in biological materials. VII. Chemical synthesis by phosphorylation of 6-thioguanos…

1990

Abstract A fast and reliable two-step method has been established for the chemical synthesis of 6-thioguanosine 5′-monophosphate, 6-thioguanosine 5′-diphosphate and 6-thioguanosine 5′-triphosphate starting from the ribonucleoside. In the first step, 6-thioguanosine dissolved in triethyl phosphate, at high yield reacts with phosphorus oxide trichloride to 6-thioguanosine 5′-monophosphate which is purified by anion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex using a step gradient of hydrochloric acid. In the second step, 6-thioguanosine 5′-monophosphate dissolved in water, reacts with phosphoric acid in the presence of pyridine/dicyclohexyl carbodiimide and is converted to 6-thioguanosine 5′-dip…

Binding of PTEN to specific PDZ domains contributes to PTEN protein stability and phosphorylation by microtubule-associated serine/threonine kinases

2005

The tumor suppressor phosphatase PTEN is a key regulator of cell growth and apoptosis that interacts with PDZ domains from regulatory proteins, including MAGI-1/2/3, hDlg, and MAST205. Here we identified novel PTEN-binding PDZ domains within the MAST205-related proteins, syntrophin-associated serine/threonine kinase and MAST3, characterized the regions of PTEN involved in its interaction with distinctive PDZ domains, and analyzed the functional consequences on PTEN of PDZ domain binding. Using a panel of PTEN mutations, as well as PTEN chimeras containing distinct domains of the related protein TPTE, we found that the PTP and C2 domains of PTEN do not affect PDZ domain binding and that the …

This work aims to analyse the link between performativity and hate speech, based on the arguments of subordination and silencing developed by MacKinnon and Butler. For this purpose…

Apigenin‐induced nitric oxide production involves calcium‐activated potassium channels and is responsible for antiangiogenic effects

2007

Summary. Background: The dietary flavonoid apigenin (Api) has been demonstrated to exert multiple beneficial effects upon the vascular endothelium. The aim of this study was to examine whether Ca2+-activated K+ channels (KCa) are involved in endothelial nitric oxide (NO) production and antiangiogenic effects. Methods: Endothelial NO generation was monitored using a cyclic guanosine monophosphate radioimmunoassay. KCa activity and changes of the intracellular Ca2+ concentration [Ca2+]i were analyzed using the fluorescent dyes bis-barbituric acid oxonol, potassium-binding benzofuran isophthalate, and fluo-3. The endothelial angiogenic parameters measured were cell proliferation, [3H]-thymidine…

Microleakage and shear bond strength of orthodontc brackets bonded to hypomineralized enamel following different surface preparations

2014

Objectives: This study investigated the effects of several conditioning methods on shear bond strength (SBS) and microleakage of orthodontic brackets bonded to demineralized enamel. Study Design: One hundred premolars were selected and immersed in a cariogenic solution for 12 weeks. The teeth were randomly assigned into 5 groups. In groups 1 and 2, the teeth underwent acid etching for 30 and 120 seconds, respectively. In group 3, a combination of laser and acid etching was employed. A self-etch primer (SEP) was applied in group 4 and in group 5, the teeth were exposed to acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) for 4 minutes before etching. After bracket bonding, the teeth were immersed in methy…
