Bisphosphonates affect migration ability and cell viability of HUVEC, fibroblasts and osteoblasts in vitro

2010

Oral Diseases (2011) 17, 194–199 Objectives:  Bisphosphonate-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw (BP-ONJ) is a side effect in patients being treated with bisphosphonates. The bisphosphonates most often associated with BP-ONJ are the highly potent nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates, e.g. pamidronate or zoledronate. In terms of BP-ONJ aetiology, several theories are being discussed: inhibition of bone remodelling, effect on soft tissues, and antiangiogenic effect of bisphosphonates. The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the effect of different potent bisphosphonates on osteoblasts, fibroblasts and human umbilicord vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Materials and methods:  Three nitr…

Factors influencing axillary shoot proliferation and adventitious budding in cedar.

2005

We developed procedures for in vitro cloning of Cedrus atlantica Manetti and C. libani A. Rich explants from juvenile and mature plants. Explant size was one determinant of the frequency of axillary bud break in both species. Shoot tips and nodal explants mainly developed calli, whereas bud sprouting occurred in defoliated microcuttings cultured on a modified Murashige and Skoog medium without growth regulators. Isolation and continuous subculture of sprouted buds on the same medium allowed cloning of microcuttings from C. atlantica and C. libani seedlings and bicentennial C. libani trees, thus providing a desirable alternative for multiplying mature trees that have demonstrated superior ch…

Una capitale intermittente: la vicenda di Antiochia di Siria nel IV secolo d.C.

2020

Thanks to the mass of information that can be extrapolated from Libanius of Antioch, it is possible to select the two facies of the city on the Oronte in Late Antiquity, i.e. Antioch as administrative capital (of the province of Syria; of the Diocese of the East), and Antioch as imperial capital (although not in the strict sense: but the city played the role of ‘episodic capital’). This contribution aims at focusing on Antioch as ‘imperial capital intermittently’, highlighting: the implications both at economic- logis- tical (supply related to the presence of the court) and urban-monumental level (new buildings already starting from Diocletian) as well as the relationship with the other cit…

Antiochia di Siria di fronte al problema dell’immigrazione. (Lib., Or. 56, 22-23)

2018

In the paragraphs 22-23 of the speech 56, Libanius proposes the expulsion of foreigners from the city of Antioch. The measure, in fact, is not so peremptory, as it contains rather the criterion whereby to separate the good or moderate from the bad or intemperate: having home, wife, children and work is the condition for making a good citizen. Thus emerges a subtle discrimen among the foreigners who constituted the claque, disease of the city, and which therefore deserved to be eradicated away, and the other xenoi fully incorporated into the social and citizen context within which they could safely remain.

The size and shape of shells used by hermit crabs: A multivariate analysis of Clibanarius erythropus

2009

Shell attributes such as weight and shape affect the reproduction, growth, predator avoidance and behaviour of several hermit crab species. Although the importance of these attributes has been extensively investigated, it is still difficult to assess the relative role of size and shape. Multivariate techniques allow concise and efficient quantitative analysis of these multidimensional properties, and this paper aims to understand their role in determining patterns of hermit crab shell use. To this end, a multivariate approach based on a combination of size-unconstrained (shape) PCA and RDA ordination was used to model the biometrics of southern Mediterranean Clibanarius erythropus populatio…

Los notarios y su documentación. Diplomática notarial valenciana

2023
