Spectral broadening enhancement in silicon waveguides through pulse shaping

2012

Spectral broadening in silicon waveguides is usually inhibited at telecom wavelengths due to some adverse effects related to semiconductor dynamics, namely, two-photon and free-carrier absorption (FCA). In this Letter, our numerical simulations show that it is possible to achieve a significant enhancement in spectral broadening when we properly preshape the input pulse to reduce the impact of FCA on spectral broadening. Our analysis suggests that the use of input pulses with the correct skewness and power level is crucial for this achievemen This work was financially supported by the Plan Nacional Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación (I+D +I) under the research project TEC2008-05490, by…

An integrated calibration system for liquid argon calorimetry

1999

Abstract A novel technical solution for an integrated version of the pulse generator of a calibration system for liquid argon calorimeters is presented. It consists of a differential amplifier with automatic offset compensation, a current mirror and a switching logic. These components are integrated on an ASIC chip in CMOS technology. The technical realisation as well as results on the performance are presented.

Measurement of the integrated luminosities of the data taken by BESIII at √ s = 3.650 and 3.773 GeV

2013

Data sets were collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPC II collider at the center-of-mass energy of root s=3.650 GeV during May 2009 and at root s=3.773 GeV from January 2010 to May 2011. By analyzing the large angle Bhabha scattering events, the integrated luminosities of the two data sets are measured to be (44.49 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.44) pb(-1) and (2916.94 +/- 0.18 +/- 29.17) pb(-1), respectively, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic.

Position sensitive scintillator based detector improvements by means of an integrated front-end

2009

PESIC is an integrated front-end for multianode photomultiplier based nuclear imaging devices. Its architecture has been designed to improve position sensitive detectors behavior by equalizing its response over its whole area. Its preamplying stage introduces two main benefits: digitally programmable gain adjustment for every photomultiplier output, and isolation from other front-end electronics by means of current buffers. This last feature allows to use different types of photomultipliers and optimizes front-end deadtime, reducing impact position dependent output delay. PESIC also includes an indirect measurement of the depth of interaction of the gamma ray inside the scintillator crystal…

The X-ray imager on AXO

2001

Abstract DSRI has initiated a development program of CZT X-ray and gamma-ray detectors employing strip readout techniques. A dramatic improvement of the energy response was found operating the detectors as the so-called drift detectors. For the electronic readout, modern ASIC chips were investigated. Modular design and the low-power electronics will make large area detectors using the drift strip method feasible. The performance of a prototype CZT system will be presented and discussed. One such detector system has been proposed for future space missions: the X-Ray Imager (XRI) on the Atmospheric X-ray Observatory (AXO), which is a mission proposed to the Danish Small Satellite Program and …

A coded mask for γ-ray astronomy. Design and calibration

2003

Abstract The high-resolution γ-ray spectrometer (SPI) is one of the two main instruments on board the ESA INTEGRAL satellite successfully launched in October 2002. SPI uses coded aperture mask technique in order to have imaging capabilities at the energy band (20 keV–8 MeV) it will study celestial sources. The SPI imaging performance depends critically on the quality of the coded mask response and also on the precise knowledge of such response function. In this paper we present a general description of the SPI Coded Mask design together with its main features. Scientific impact of INTEGRAL SPI Coded Mask design on the instrument capabilities is also discussed. Results obtained for Mask cali…

Frontend electronics for high-precision single photo-electron timing using FPGA-TDCs

2014

Abstract The next generation of high-luminosity experiments requires excellent particle identification detectors which calls for Imaging Cherenkov counters with fast electronics to cope with the expected hit rates. A Barrel DIRC will be used in the central region of the Target Spectrometer of the planned PANDA experiment at FAIR. A single photo-electron timing resolution of better than 100 ps is required by the Barrel DIRC to disentangle the complicated patterns created on the image plane. R&D studies have been performed to provide a design based on the TRB3 readout using FPGA-TDCs with a precision better than 20 ps RMS and custom frontend electronics with high-bandwidth pre-amplifiers and …

Detector blockbased on arrays of 144 SiPMs and monolithic scintillators: A performane study

2015

[EN] We have developed a detector block composed by a monolithic LYSO scintillator coupled to a custom made 12 12 SiPMs array. The design is mainly focused to applications such as Positron Emission Tomography. The readout electronics is based on 3 identical and scalable Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC). We have determined the main performance of the detector block namely spatial, energy, and time resolution but also the system capability to determine the photon depth of interaction, for different crystal surface treatments. Intrinsic detector spatial resolution values as good as 1.7 mm FWHM and energies of 15% for black painted crystals were measured. & 2014 Elsevier B.V. All…

Application of ultra-fast timing techniques to the study of exotic and weakly produced nuclei

2005

Ultra-fast time-delayed techniques have been recently applied in a number of studies where exotic nuclei were identified using advanced selection techniques. These include large Compton-suppressed Ge arrays, in-flight separators or recoil separators. Some of the new results are discussed in this presentation. Besides the results for $^{32}$Mg and $^{96}$Pd, they include the first determination of the half-life of the $8^+$ state in $^{80}$Ge, $T_1/2$ = 2.95(6) ns, and significantly more precise results for $^{51}$Mn (3680 keV level) and $^{48}$V (421 keV level), $T_1/2$ = 1760(40) ps and $T_1/2$ $\leq$ 135 ps, respectively. Development of new scintillators will steadily improve precision an…
