Purpose: Nephron sparing surgery is standard treatment for small, peripherally located renal cell carcinoma. In patients with a solitary kidney, bilateral tumors or impaired renal function nephron sparing surgery provides the only option to nephrectomy and subsequent hemodialysis or transplantation. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between inflammation and adhesion molecules in long-term kidney transplantation. We measured serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) and intercellular and vascular cell adhesion molecules (ICAM-1 and VCAM-1) in 35 renal transplant recipients (mean age of transplantation 5 +/- 3 years) and in 35 chronic renal insufficiency (CRI) patients; twenty-six healthy subjects were enrolled as controls. Retroaortic left renal vein joining the left common iliac vein

Retroaortic left renal vein joining the left common iliac vein is a rare congenital anomaly in the development of the inferior vena cava. To our knowledge, only one case has been reported in the literature; however, its imaging features have never been described. A 27-year-old male presented with a 1-year history of recurrent right flank pain, dysuria, hematuria, and fever (39 degrees C). Computed tomography and MR venography showed a retroaortic left renal vein joining the left common iliac vein. We present the CT and MR venography findings and discuss their feasibility in showing this congenital anomaly.

Ureteropelvic junction obstruction in association with a duplex collecting system is a rare but challenging upper urinary tract pathology. We report our 21-year experience with this anomaly in terms of presentation, diagnostic evaluation and management.We retrospectively identified all patients with ureteropelvic junction obstruction in a duplex collecting system between 1991 and 2012. We reviewed each case for presenting symptoms, anatomy and management. Transcatheter embolization of a renal artery pseudoaneurysm after open partial nephrectomy.

Twelve days after an open partial nephrectomy, a 31-year-old man was re-admitted urgently for acute lumbar pain. An emergent helical computed tomography scan with intravenous contrast revealed a 3-cm renal artery pseudoaneurysm at the site of the partial nephrectomy, which was responsible for a large perirenal hematoma. Transarterial hyperselective embolization successfully occluded the pseudoaneurysm with less than 1 mL of N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, an embolizing agent less costly than coils. The kidney parenchyma was fully preserved.
