Triphenanthro‐anellierte [18]Annulene mit Alkoxy‐Seitenketten — Eine neue Klasse discotischer Flüssigkristalle

1994

Triphenanthro-Anellated [18]Annulenes with Alkoxy Side Chains - A Novel Class of Discotic Liquid Crystals Two different types 6 and 16 of [18]annulenes condensed with phenanthrene systems were prepared by cyclocondensation reactions (Schemes 2 and 3). The central 18-membered rings do not show a macrocyclic diamagnetic ring current. Conformational analyses and X-ray analyses in the solid state reveal non-planar structures in which aromatic “islands” are connected by (E)-configurated olefinic bridges. The introduction of long alkoxy side chains yields a new class of discotic liquid crystals; either ND or hexagonal columnar phases are generated, which were characterized by DSC, microscopy with…

Ion-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography of nucleotides and polypeptides on new types of ion-exchange sorbents, based on polystyrene-coate…

1991

A novel type of ion exchanger was prepared by multipoint covalent binding of polystyrene chains onto the surface of porous silica followed by polymer-analogous modification of the bonded layer. Both anion and cation exchangers were synthesized and examined in the separation of nucleotides and proteins. Rapid and efficient separation of basic polypeptides on strong anion exchangers and that of acidic polypeptides on strong cation exchangers could be achieved. For the separation of complete mixtures of polypeptides the application of zwitter-ionic ion exchangers can be recommended.

Study of AOT-stabilized microemulsions of urea dispersed in carbon tetrachloride

2003

Measurements of some physico-chemical properties (density, viscosity, permittivity) of the urea/sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT)/CCl4 system as a function of the volume fraction of the dispersed phase (0<Φ<0.7) at various urea to AOT molar ratio (Rurea) have been carried out at 25 °C. The experimental data analysis are consistent with the hypothesis that urea is entrapped as small-size molecular clusters within the hydrophilic core of the AOT reversed micelles and that this structure is preserved well above a threshold Φ value where a percolative transition occurs. Besides, X-ray diffraction spectra of samples at Φ=1, obtained by complete evaporation under vacuum of the apolar …

A polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane-based catalyst for the efficient synthesis of cyclic carbonates

2015

Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane functionalized with imidazolium chloride peripheries (POSS-Imi) was successfully synthesized through a novel synthesis protocol. The solid was extensively characterized via1H NMR, 13C NMR and IR spectroscopy as well as combustion chemical analysis, mass spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy. Moreover, an in-depth investigation through 29Si NMR was performed. POSS-Imi was used for the first time as a catalyst for the conversion of CO2 and epoxides into cyclic carbonates with excellent results in terms of both yield and selectivity. The catalyst displayed improved catalytic performance with respect to unsupported 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chl…

Estimation of Solute-Stationary Phase and Solute-Mobile Phase Interactions in the Presence of Ionic Liquids

2019

The presence of free silanols on alkyl-bonded reversed-phase stationary phases is responsible for broad and asymmetrical peaks when basic drugs are chromatographed with conventional octadecylsilane (C18) columns due to ionic interactions. In the last few years, ionic liquids (ILs) have attracted attention to reduce this undesirable silanol activity. ILs should be considered as dual modifiers (with a cationic and anionic character), which means that both cations and anions are able to adsorb on the stationary phase, creating a positively or negatively charged layer, depending on the relative adsorption. The accessibility of basic compounds to the silanols is prevented by both the IL cation a…

Interfacial Self-Assembly of Water-Soluble Cationic Porphyrins for the Reduction of Oxygen to Water

2012

Meet at the border: Assembly of the water-soluble cobalt tetrakis(N-methylpyridinium-4-yl)porphyrin [CoTMPyP]4+ at soft interfaces is enhanced and stabilized by its interfacial interaction with the lipophilic anion (C6F5)4B−. The supramolecular structure thus formed (see picture) provides excellent catalytic activity in the four-electron reduction of oxygen.

A novel target of lithium therapy.

2000

Phosphatases converting 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphate (PAP) into adenosine 5'-phosphate are of fundamental importance in living cells as the accumulation of PAP is toxic to several cellular systems. These enzymes are lithium-sensitive and we have characterized a human PAP phosphatase as a potential target of lithium therapy. A cDNA encoding a human enzyme was identified by data base screening, expressed in Escherichia coli and the 33 kDa protein purified to homogeneity. The enzyme exhibits high affinity for PAP (K(m)1 microM) and is sensitive to subtherapeutic concentrations of lithium (IC(50)=0.3 mM). The human enzyme also hydrolyzes inositol-1, 4-bisphosphate with high affinity (K(m)=0…

Comparison of green sample preparation techniques in the analysis of pyrethrins and pyrethroids in baby food by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spe…

2017

A new selective and sensitive liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry method was developed for simultaneous analysis of natural pyrethrins and synthetic pyrethroids residues in baby food. In this study, two sample preparation methods based on ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (UA-DLLME) and salting-out assisted liquid–liquid extraction (SALLE) were optimized, and then, compared regarding the performance criteria. Appropriate linearity in solvent and matrix-based calibrations, and suitable recoveries (75–120%) and precision (RSD values ≤ 16%) were achieved for selected analytes by any of the sample preparation procedures. Both methods provided the…

Analysis of insecticides in honey by liquid chromatography–ion trap-mass spectrometry: Comparison of different extraction procedures

2010

The feasibility of different extraction procedures was tested and compared for the determination of 12 organophosphorus and carbamates insecticides in honey samples. In this sense, once the samples were pre-treated - essentially dissolved in hot water by stirring - and before they could be analyzed by liquid chromatography-ion trap-second stage mass spectrometry (LC-MS(2)), four different approaches were studied for the extraction step: QuEChERS, solid-phase extraction (SPE), pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The main aim of this work was to maximise the sensitivity of pesticides and to minimise the presence of interfering compounds in the extract. …
