Transarterielle Chemoembolisation (TACE) des Hepatozellulären Karzinoms (HCC) bei Patienten mit Pfortaderthrombose - Erfahrungen
2007
PURPOSE: Comparative analysis of the course of disease in patients with initial diagnosis of portal vein thrombosis in HCC treated with sequential TACE. Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of the method in a selected patient cohort. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study included 22 patients with HCC that were palliatively treated at least 3 times with TACE. All patients presented a portal vein thrombosis in the initial CT investigation. The TACE-procedure was carried out in regular intervals using a suspension consisting of a fixed dosage of Mitomycin C (10 mg) and 10-20 ml Lipiodol. Follow-up investigations were carried out with contrast enhanced Multislice-CT before and after TACE and control…
Chemokine Receptor-5Δ32 Mutation is No Risk Factor for Ischemic-Type Biliary Lesion in Liver Transplantation
2009
It has been shown that certain chemokine receptor polymorphisms may correspond to certain complications after organ transplantation. Ischemic-type biliary lesion (ITBL) encounters for major morbidity and mortality in liver transplant recipients. So far, the exact cause for ITBL remains unclear. Certain risk factors for the development of ITBL like donor age and cold ischemic time are well described. In a previous study, a 32-nucleotide deletion of the chemokine receptor-5Δ32 (CCR-5Δ32) was strongly associated with the incidence of ITBL in adult liver transplantation. This study re-evaluates the association of CCR-5Δ32 gene polymorphism and the incidence of ITBL. 169 patients were included i…
Associated Factors and Liver Disease Severity for Decreased Bone Mineral Density in HIV Mono- and HIV/HCV Co-infected Patients
2015
Objective: We assessed the prevalence and risk factors of decreased bone mineral density (BMD) in patients mono-infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or co-infected with hepatitis C virus (HIV/HCV). We also evaluated whether bone loss was linked to lipid asset in both groups and to severity of liver fibrosis in the co-infected group. Methods: We consecutively enrolled 194 HIV-patients (129 mono-infected and 65 co-infected). All HIV-patients underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), while co-infected patients underwent transient elastography. Advanced liver fibrosis was defined as a median liver stiffness ≥ 9.5 kPa. Fibrosis was also assessed in all the HIV-patients using …

D-penicillamine in Wilson's disease presenting as acute liver failure with hemolysis.
1982
Wilson's disease in a young woman presenting with an acute course is described. The clinical manifestations were fulminant hepatic failure associated with marked intravascular hemolysis. Immediate D-penicillamine and high-dose steroid therapy did not influence the course of the disease. Necropsy revealed an increased hepatic copper content and cirrhosis with extensive necrosis of the liver.
The impact of liver disease aetiology and the stages of hepatic fibrosis on the performance of non-invasive fibrosis biomarkers: an international stu…
2011
Aliment Pharmacol Ther 2011; 34: 1202–1216 Summary Background Performance of non-invasive fibrosis biomarkers may be influenced by aetiology of chronic liver disease (CLD) and the stages of hepatic fibrosis, but large-scale studies are pending. Aim To investigate the effect of aetiogy and stages of hepatic fibrosis on the performance of fibrosis biomarkers. Methods A total of 2411 patients with compensated CLD (HCV = 75.1%, HBV = 10.5%, NASH = 7.9%, HIV/HCV = 6.5%) were consecutively enrolled in 9 centres. APRI, Forns’index, Lok index, AST-to-ALT ratio, Fib-4, platelets and Fibrotest-Fibrosure were tested against liver biopsy, considered the gold standard. The effect of the stages of hep…
Enfermedad del hígado graso no alcohólico, asociación con la enfermedad cardiovascular y tratamiento ( I ). Enfermedad del hígado graso no alcohólico…
2017
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) comprises a series of histologically lesions similar to those induced by alcohol consumption in people with very little or no liver damage. The importance of NAFLD is its high prevalence in the Western world and, from the point of view of the liver, in its gradual progression from steatosis to steatohepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. During the last decade it has been observed that NAFLD leads to an increased cardiovascular risk with acceleration of arteriosclerosis and events related to it, being the main cause of its morbidity and mortality. This review, updated to January 2016, consists of two parts, with the first part analysing the associa…

Heat Shock Protein 70 Serum Levels Differ Significantly in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis, Liver Cirrhosis, and Hepatocellular Carcinoma
2014
Members of the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) family play an important role in assisting protein folding, preventing protein aggregation and transport of proteins across membranes under physiological conditions. Following environmental (i.e., irradiation, chemotherapy), physiological (i.e., cell growth, differentiation), and pathophysiological (i.e., inflammation, tumorigenesis) stress, the synthesis of heat shock proteins (HSPs) is highly up-regulated, whereas protein synthesis in general is reduced. In contrast to normal cells, many tumor entities including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) overexpress HSP70, the major-stress-inducible member of the HSP70 family, present it on their cell surf…
