Pion transverse momentum dependent parton distributions in the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model
2015
An explicit evaluation of the two pion transverse momentum dependent parton distributions at leading twist is presented, in the framework of the Nambu-Jona Lasinio model with Pauli-Villars regularization. The transverse momentum dependence of the obtained distributions is generated solely by the dynamics of the model. Using these results, the so called generalized Boer-Mulders shift is studied and compared with recent lattice data. The obtained agreement is very encouraging, in particular because no additional parameter has been introduced. A more conclusive comparison would require a precise knowledge of the QCD evolution of the transverse momentum dependent parton distributions under scru…
Double parton distributions in the pion in the Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model
2019
Two-parton correlations in the pion, a non perturbative information encoded in double parton distribution functions, are investigated in the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model. It is found that double parton distribution functions expose novel dynamical information on the structure of the pion, not accessible through one-body parton distributions, as it happens in several estimates for the proton target and in a previous evaluation for the pion, in a light-cone framework. Expressions and predictions are given for double parton distributions corresponding to leading-twist Dirac operators in the quark vertices, and to different regularization methods for the Nambu and Jona-Lasinio model. These resu…
Agro-hydrological models to schedule irrigation of Mediterranean tree crops
2010
In this paper a comparison between two agro-hydrological models, used to schedule irrigation of typical Mediterranean tree crops, is assessed. In particular the comparison between the model proposed by FAO, using a black box processes schematization, and the SWAP model based on the numerical analysis of Richards’ equation is initially presented for two irrigation seasons, 2005 and 2006, and two Mediterranean tree crops, i.e. grapevine (Vitis vinifera, L.) and olive oil (Olea europea, L.). The comparison mainly focuses on hydrological balance components and on soil water contents. After investigating and setting the scheduling parameters ordinarily practiced by the framers in the area (i.e o…
Effects of climate and land use changes on runoff extremes
2017
The analysis of the hydrological changes and their interacting triggering factors are objectives defined within the Panta Rhei decade 2013-2022. Climate change and urbanization are among the most recurrent causes for hydrological changes at the global level. This work proposes a modeling framework for the analysis of the alterations in the watershed hydrological response and, more specifically, in runoff extremes, induced by such perturbations. A weather generator and a cellular automata land-use change model are used to generate hypothetical scenarios accounting for relevant trends at the global level. Such scenarios are successively considered to force a physically-based and spatial-distr…
Testing a model for the monitoring of worked-out algebra-problem examples: from behaviours to outcomes on a math task
2021
This study aimed at testing an extension of a theoretical model for the metacognitive monitoring mechanism implied in the detection of inconsistencies when the information provided includes abstract symbols in addition to plain text. Ninety-four postgraduates of STEM specialities were asked to read a worked-out algebra-problem example and to report any incoherence, inconsistency, or error detected in the statement or in the solving procedure. A set of model inspired indexes was defined to describe participants¿ behaviour along the task. The Read & Answer software was used to record online individual processing data and participants¿ reports. Results supported model predictions. Indexes corr…
A numerical assessment of the free energy function for fractional-order relaxation
2014
In this paper a novel method based on complex eigenanalysis in the state variables domain is proposed to uncouple the set of rational order fractional differential equations governing the dynamics of multi-degree-of-freedom system. The traditional complex eigenanalysis is appropriately modified to be applicable to the coupled fractional differential equations. This is done by expanding the dimension of the problem and solving the system in the state variable domain. Examples of applications are given pertaining to multi-degree-of-freedom systems under both deterministic and stochastic loads.
Developing Self-Awareness in Robots via Inner Speech
2019
The experience of inner speech is a common one. Such a dialogue accompanies the introspection of mental life and fulfills essential roles in human behavior, such as self-restructuring, self-regulation, and re-focusing on attentional resources. Although the underpinning of inner speech is mostly investigated in psychological and philosophical fields, the research in robotics generally does not address such a form of self-aware behavior. Existing models of inner speech inspire computational tools to provide a robot with this form of self-awareness. Here, the widespread psychological models of inner speech are reviewed, and a cognitive architecture for a robot implementing such a capability is…
Modéliser la réponse des espèces marines antarctiques aux changements environnementaux. Méthodes, applications et limites.
2021
Among tools that are used to fill knowledge gaps on natural systems, ecological modelling has been widely applied during the last two decades. Ecological models are simple representations of a complex reality. They allow to highlight environmental drivers of species ecological niche and better understand species responses to environmental changes. However, applying models to Southern Ocean benthic organisms raises several methodological challenges. Species presence datasets are often aggregated in time and space nearby research stations or along main sailing routes. Data are often limited in number to correctly describe species occupied space and physiology. Finally, environmental datasets …
At the Roots of Product Placement: The Mere Exposure Effect
2013
The present study aims to analyze the effect of product placement on attitude change and takes into consideration psychological models of the mere exposure effect. A sample of high school students watched an excerpt from two widely-distributed movies in which several products were shown by using the technique known as product placement. The results indicate that students who saw the commercial brand liked the products more than those who didn’t see it. This effect, in line with the literature on the product placement effect, seems to be independent from the recognition of the brand in the movie excerpt. This study also shows that, in the high involvement condition, one exposure is enough to…
DIRITTO ROMANO E DIRITTO CIVILE: LE RAGIONI DI UNA RINNOVATA RIFLESSIONE STORICA SUI MODELLI TEORICI E METODOLOGICI. A PROPOSITO DEL VOLUME DI GUIDO …
2021
The article investigates the relationship between Roman law, legal Tradition and modern civil law. The focus is mainly on theoretical and methodological models in the history of private law. In evaluating the history of the institutions, categories and concepts of civil law, the awareness is renewed that modern Codes are profoundly linked to ancient Tradition, and at the same time, represent the instrument of transmission of the same to subsequent eras. At the same time, it should be considered that even today's legal interpretation is deeply linked to Tradition, in content but above all in method. In this sense, it is then evident that carrying out an interpretation of private law in confo…
