dltA overexpression: A strain-independent keystone of daptomycin resistance in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

2013

The mechanisms leading to reduced susceptibility to daptomycin (DAP) are multifactorial and have not been fully elucidated. We analysed, by sequencing and expression studies, the role of the major molecular targets (cell-envelope charge genes, dltA, mprF, cls2; cell-wall turnover and autolysis genes, sceD, atl) involved in the emergence of DAP resistance in three series of isogenic clinical methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in which DAP resistance emerged after a heterogeneous glycopeptide-intermediate S. aureus (hGISA) step under teicoplanin and DAP therapy. All of the isolates had different genotypes and were delta-haemolysin negative, reflecting a strain proclivity to ac…

2014

ABSTRACT Local epidemiology of MRSA,with reference to the circulation of hospital and community strains and the possible role of the food chain Introduction The aim of this PhD project is to evaluate the local epidemiology of MRSA strains and the related risk to the healthcare environment, the community and the food production chain. According to literature, MRSA is a rising problem in different settings and new strains are spreading all over the world. In addition to HA-MRSA, CA-MRSA e LA-MRSA are new important problems to face. In this contest, this study is focused to estimate the frequency of isolation of MRSA in different kind of samples and to analyze the main features of the collecte…

Klīniski nozīmīgas bakteriēmijas Rīgas multidisciplinārā slimnīcā

2020

In vivo and ex vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the infarct and the subventricular zone in experimental stroke

2015

Ex vivo high-resolution magic-angle spinning (HRMAS) provides metabolic information with higher sensitivity and spectral resolution than in vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). Therefore, we used both techniques to better characterize the metabolic pattern of the infarct and the neural progenitor cells (NPCs) in the ipsilateral subventricular zone (SVZi). Ischemic stroke rats were divided into three groups: G0 (non-stroke controls, n = 6), G1 (day 1 after stroke, n = 6), and G7 (days 6 to 8 after stroke, n =12). All the rats underwent MRS. Three rats per group were analyzed by HRMAS. The remaining rats were used for immunohistochemical studies. In the infarct, both techniques detect…

Assessing Metacomprehension and Metacognitive Reading Strategies

2019

The aim of the study was to establish the similarities and differences among existing instruments for measuring metacognition, in particular the awareness of reading comprehension and further to construct an original instrument for measuring features of metacognition, henceforth referred to as the Metacomprehension and Metacognitive Reading Strategies (M&MRS) Inventory. The M&MRS Inventory was distributed to 115 students at University of Palermo. The results revealed a good reliability

Circolazione di MRSA in età pediatrica in ambiente ospedaliero e in comunità

2013

Introduzione.
