Representation of Autonomous Automata

2001

An autonomous automaton is a finite automaton with output in which the input alphabet has cardinality one when special reduced. We define the transition from automata to semigroups via a representation successful if given two incomparable automata (neither simulate the other), the semigroups representing the automata are distinct. We show that representation by the transition semigroup is not successful. We then consider a representation of automata by semigroups of partial transformations. We show that in general transition from automata to semigroups by this representation is not successful either. In fact, the only successful transition presented is the transiton to this semigroup of par…

Implementation of laser speckle contrast analysis as connection kit for mobile phone for assessment of skin blood flow

2014

Laser speckle contrast analysis (LASCA) offers a non-contact, full-field, and real-time mapping of capillary blood flow and can be considered as an alternative method to Laser Doppler perfusion imaging. LASCA technique has been implemented in several commercial instruments. However, these systems are still too expensive and bulky to be widely available. Several optical techniques have found new implementations as connection kits for mobile phones thus offering low cost screening devices. In this work we demonstrate simple implementation of LASCA imaging technique as connection kit for mobile phone for primary low-cost assessment of skin blood flow. Stabilized 650 nm and 532 nm laser diode m…

Ensuring Sufficient Literacy Practice with Tablet Technology in Zambian Schools

2015

Tablets are a promising mobile device for disseminating e-Learning materials at schools in Africa. E-learning materials can be especially useful for the practice of early literacy skills. Introducing mobile devices to schools can be challenging as teachers are required to make changes to their daily routines and the use of technology can be problematic in overcrowded classrooms. This study aimed to find out the most optimal way of providing GraphoGame literacy intervention via tablets for grade one learners in an urban school environment. The study tested whether GraphoGame mounted on tablets increases initial literacy skills among grade one learners. Three different conditions for providin…

A Green Mesh Routers' Placement to Ensure Small Cells Backhauling in 5G Networks

2017

International audience; The wireless industry is preparing the fifth generation wireless systems with several requirements regarding capacity and coverage area. A promising solution to meet this challenge is a densification of the network via a large scale deployment of small cells from different sizes. The advantage here is that small cells are easy to deploy and cost-efficient compared to macro base stations. However, the challenge is to ensure a reliable backhaul links. Mesh routers backhauling is one of the candidate solutions here, since it is easy to deploy, doesn't use wired connections between locations and cost-efficient. Nevertheless, the issue is to deploy routers in the suitable…

A Novel Approach for Faulty Sensor Detection and Data Correction in Wireless Sensor Network

2013

he main Wireless Sensor Networks purpose is represented by areas of interest monitoring. Even if the Wireless sensor network is properly initialized, errors can occur during its monitoring tasks. The present work describes an approach for detecting faulty sensors in Wireless Sensor Network and for correcting their corrupted data. The approach is based on the assumption that exist a spatio-temporal cross- correlations among sensors. Two sequential mathematical tools are used. The first stage is a probabilistic tools, namely Markov Random Field, for a two-fold sensor classification (working or damaged). The last stage is represented by the Locally Weighted Regression model, a learning techniq…

Cloud top altitude retrieved from Lidar measurements during ACLOUD at 1 second resolution

2021

During the ACLOUD aircraft campaign (23.5.2017 - 26.6.2017) the AMALi Lidar was installed mostly nadir pointing. This dataset contains the cloud top altitude from those measurements (altitudes with a strong signal increase) as well as a cloud mask, derived from the optical depth of the column at 1 second resolution. The majority of the data was collected northwest of the Svalbard archipelago. More details on the campaign can be found in Wendisch 2018 and Ehrlich 2019 and here (https://home.uni-leipzig.de/~ehrlich/ACLOUD_wiki_doku). Please check the data documentation (https://download.pangaea.de/reference/108729/attachments/readme_documentation_AMALi_cloudtop.pdf) before using this dataset.

Performance evaluation of different techniques to estimate subjective quality in live video streaming applications over LTE-Advance mobile networks

2018

Abstract Current mobile service providers are offering Gigabit Internet access over LTE-Advanced networks. Traditional services, such as live video streaming, over wired networks are feasible on these networks. However different aspects should be taken into account due to the fast changing network conditions as well as the constrained resources of the mobile phones, in order to provide a good subjective video quality in terms of Mean Opinion Score (MOS). Our goal is to estimate and predict this subjective metric without information or reference from the original video, known as Non Reference approach. This approach is important for the Service Provider from a practical point of view, becaus…

Coping with the costs of car dependency : A system of expedients used by low-income households on the outskirts of Dijon and Paris

2018

International audience; Living on low incomes and in a car-dependent area is often interpreted as a double burden for households, even if the two characteristics are often interdependent. While their capacity for mobility is lower, low-income households in outer suburban areas are nonetheless mobile. Their capacities in this domain should not be underestimated or overlooked. They can command a set of alternative practices or expedients to deal with car-related economic stress by a set of resources derived essentially from spatial proximity. This article aims to present and analyse the diversity of these expedients for the case of outer suburban areas around Paris and Dijon. The analysis of …
