Tracking Changes in Frontal Lobe Hemodynamic Response in Individual Adults With Developmental Language Disorder Following HD tDCS Enhanced Phonologic…

2020

Background: Current research suggests a neurobiological marker of developmental language disorder (DLD) in adolescents and young adults may be an atypical neural profile coupled with behavioral performance that overlaps with that of normal controls. Although many imaging techniques are not suitable for the study of speech and language processing in DLD populations, fNIRS may be a viable option. In this study we asked if fNIRS can be used to identify atypical cortical activation patterns in individual adults with DLD and track potential changes in cortical activation patterns following a phonological working memory training protocol enhanced with anodal HD tDCS stimulation to the presuppleme…

Hyperfine structure of some near-infrared Xe I and Xe II lines

2011

International audience; This work reports on the experimental determination of the hyperfine splitting of the Xe I lines at 828.01 nm and 834.68 nm and the Xe II line at 834.72 nm. Measurements were performed by means of Doppler-free saturation spectroscopy in a low-pressure radio-frequency discharge. The absolute wavelength of all hyperfine components is obtained by way of a high-precision wavemeter backed-up with the absorption spectrum of the NO 2 molecule. We provide an accurate estimate of hyperfine constants for the lower level of the Xe II transition at 834.72 nm. The two Xe I transition outcomes of our experimental study are compared with data available in the literature.

Classification of persimmon fruit origin by near infrared spectrometry and least squares-support vector machines

2014

Abstract The main objective of this work has been the authentication by Fourier transform near infrared (FT-NIR) spectrometry of the origin of persimmon fruits cultivated in different regions of Spain. In order to achieve this goal, 166 persimmon samples from 7 different regions of Spain were analyzed by FT-NIR spectrometry. By splitting the spectral data in training and independent test sets, a classification model was built using least squares support vector machines chemometric technique. Orthogonal signal correction and principal component analysis were performed prior to conduct the classification strategy. The verified model was applied for the prediction of the origin of 50 samples f…

Visible-NIR reflectance spectroscopy and manifold learning methods applied to the detection of fungal infections on citrus fruit

2015

Abstract The development of systems for automatically detecting decay in citrus fruit during quality control is still a challenge for the citrus industry. The feasibility of reflectance spectroscopy in the visible and near infrared (NIR) regions was evaluated for the automatic detection of the early symptoms of decay caused by Penicillium digitatum fungus in citrus fruit. Reflectance spectra of sound and decaying surface parts of mandarins cv. ‘Clemenvilla’ were acquired in two different spectral regions, from 650 nm to 1050 nm (visible–NIR) and from 1000 nm to 1700 nm (NIR), pointing to significant differences in spectra between sound and decaying skin for both spectral ranges. Three diffe…

Design and development of a fNIRS system prototype based on SiPM detectors

2014

Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) uses near infrared sources and detectors to measure changes in absorption due to neurovascular dynamics in response to brain activation. The use of Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) in a fNIRS system has been estimated potentially able to increase the spatial resolution. Dedicated SiPM sensors have been designed and fabricated by using an optimized process. Electrical and optical characterizations are presented. The design and implementation of a portable fNIRS embedded system, hosting up to 64 IR-LED sources and 128 SiPM sensors, has been carried out. The system has been based on a scalable architecture whose elementary leaf is a flexible board …

Near infrared dyes by combination of squaraine and ferrocene chromophores

2000

Abstract Squaraines represent a class of compounds which attracts a lot of attention in materials science. A synthetic sequence for the preparation of the symmetrical squaraines 12a , b , which contain ferrocene units as electron donors, is described. The compounds exhibit, in dichloromethane or chloroform, two intense absorption bands. One of them is located at 641/650 nm—a normal region for squaraines; however, the other band is strongly shifted to long wavelengths and has its maximum at 921/961 nm. Alkyl sidechains enhance the solubility of 12a , b , which represent a new type of NIR dyes.

Vibrational spectroscopy in soil and sediment analysis

2014

The literature concerning the use of vibrational spectroscopy for soil and sediment analysis, published in the last years, has been revised in order to provide a picture of the strengths and weaknesses of these direct techniques to characterize soil composition and properties. Many soil components as water, organic matter, like humic substances, and minerals, can be determined together with physicochemical parameters as pH, conductivity or redox potential. The main strategies to obtain sample spectra and to extract, as many as possible, useful information were evaluated, taking into account the progress on chemometrics and discussing the whole analytical process, from sampling to sample pre…
