Charged-particle production as a function of multiplicity and transverse spherocity in pp collisions at √s = 5.02 and 13 TeV

2019

We present a study of the inclusive chargedparticle transverse momentum (pT) spectra as a function of charged-particle multiplicity density at mid-pseudorapidity, dNch/dη, in pp collisions at √s = 5.02 and 13 TeV covering the kinematic range |η| 0). The pT spectra are reported for two multiplicity estimators covering different pseudorapidity regions. The pT spectra normalized to that for INEL > 0 show little energy dependence. Moreover, the high-pT yields of charged particles increase faster than the charged-particle multiplicity density. The average pT as a function of multiplicity and transverse spherocity is reported for pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV. For low- (high-) spherocity events, c…

Asymmetric and symmetric fission of excited nuclei of 180,190Hg and 184,192,202Pb formed in the reactions with 36Ar and 40,48Ca ions

2021

Background: Observation of asymmetric fission of 180Hg has led to intensive theoretical and experimental studies of fission of neutron-deficient nuclei in the lead region. Purpose: The study of asymmetric and symmetric fission modes of 180,190Hg and 184,192,202Pb nuclei. Methods: Mass-energy distributions of fission fragments of 180,190Hg and 184Pb formed in the 36Ar+144,154Sm and 40Ca+144Sm reactions, respectively, at energies near the Coulomb barrier have been measured using the double-arm time-of-flight spectrometer CORSET and compared with previously measured 192,202Pb isotopes produced in the 48Ca+144,154Sm reactions. The mass distributions for 180,190Hg and 184,192,202Pb together with…

Evaporation channel as a tool to study fission dynamics

2017

The dynamics of the fission process is expected to affect the evaporation residue cross section because of the fission hindrance due to the nuclear viscosity. Systems of intermediate fissility constitute a suitable environment for testing such hypothesis, since they are characterized by evaporation residue cross sections comparable or larger than the fission ones. Observables related to emitted charged particle, due to their relatively high emission probability, can be used to put stringent constraints on models describing the excited nucleus decay and to recognize the effects of fission dynamics. In this work model simulations are compared with the experimental data collected via the ^{32}…

Towards higher sensitivity at the RITU focal plane

2001

The recently reconstructed focal plane detector system for the gas-filled recoil separator RITU was used to observe a new proton emitter 164Ir. The nuclide was produced via the p5n fusion evaporation channel using a 64Zn beam on a 106Cd target. The proton energy Ep = 1817(9) keV and half-life T1/2 = 113+62-30 μ s were used to characterize the decaying state to be [π h11/2 ν f7/2]9+. The new focal plane detector system and the results of the proton decay studies will be discussed. peerReviewed

Transverse momentum distributions for exclusive $\varrho^{0}$ muoproduction

1992

We have studied transverse momentum distributions for exclusive rho(0) muoproduction on protons and heavier nuclei at 2 < Q2 < 25 GeV2. The Q2 dependence of the slopes of the p(t)2 and t' distributions is discussed. The influence of the non-exclusive background is investigated. The p(t)2-slope for exclusive events is 4.3 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.7 GeV-2 at large Q2. The p(t)2 spectra are much softer than inclusive p(t)2 spectra of leading hadrons produced in deep inelastic scattering.

Solar neutrino physics with Borexino

2018

We present the most recent solar neutrino results from the Borexino experiment at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory. In particular, refined measurements of all neutrinos produced in the {\it pp} fusion chain have been made. It is the first time that the same detector measures the entire range of solar neutrinos at once. These new data weakly favor a high-metallicity Sun. Prospects for measuring CNO solar neutrinos are also discussed.

Alpha decay studies of translead nuclei at the proton drip line

2001

Extensive α-decay studies of the very neutron deficient isotopes 191Po, 195Rn, and 196Rn have been performed at the RITU gas-filled recoil separator. The recoil-α–(α) correlation technique and the α–γ coincidence technique have been utilized to unambiguously connect the observed α-decays to proper nuclei. Illustrative examples on how the α-decay can yield spectroscopic information on the nuclei studied will be presented. peerReviewed

Open problems in the physics of neutrino interactions with nucleons and nuclei

2020

Along this thesis we address the interaction of neutrinos with nucleons and nuclei, in different scenarios. In first place, we critically analyze a proposal to explain the excess of events in the mini experiment, developed Masip et al. (JHEP 1301, 106 (2013)) and based in a model proposed by Gninenko (Phys. Rev. D83, 015015 (2011)). In this model we have a heavy neutrino, with a mass around 50 GeV, which would be produced in the interaction between the incoming light neutrino and the detector material. Then this heavy neutrino would decay emitting a light neutrino and a photon. The Cherenkov detectors are unable to distinguish a photon signal from an electron one, for this reason this model…
