Finnish and German student teachers’ motivations for choosing teaching as a career : The first application of the FIT-Choice scale in Finland

This study introduces and validates the Finnish version of the FIT-Choice scale and uses the scale to explore Finnish undergraduate students' motivations for choosing teaching as a career as well as their perceptions of teaching as a profession in comparison to German student teachers. The results replicated the FIT-Choice structure both in Finland and Germany. Sample comparisons revealed that motivations for teaching and perceptions of the teaching profession reflected both differences and similarities between Finland and Germany. Ensimmäisten kouluvuosien tärkeimpiä tavoitteita on peruslukutaidon ja kirjoitustaidon oppiminen. Ilman näiden taitojen hallintaa yhteiskunnassa toimiminen on haasteellista. Tutkimuksemme tarkoituksena on saada tietoa siitä, millaisia käsityksiä luokanopettajaopiskelijoilla on lukemaan opettamisesta. Tässä pro gradu-työssä tutkittiin ensimmäisen vuoden opiskelijoiden kiinnittymistä yliopistoon. Kiin-nittyminen on prosessi, jossa opiskelijasta tulee yliopistoyhteisön jäsen ja hän alkaa toimia akateemis-ten tavoitteiden saavuttamiseksi. Yliopistoon kiinnittymisessä nähtiin teorian pohjalta kaksi päälinjaa: akateeminen ja sosiaalinen integraatio. From the past to the future : self-concepts of English language teachers from Finland and Korea

This article explores 1) how two English language teachers from Finland and Korea develop their self-concept as English learners throughout their English learning trajectory, and 2) the positive motivational effects of self-reflective experiences upon the research participants. To obtain more holistic research findings, a combination of verbal in-depth interviews with visual artworks depicting English learning timeline and self-portraits were used. Tieto- ja viestintäteknologia (TVT) on tärkeä osa ihmisten jokapäiväistä elämää ja toimintoja. TVT:n yleistyminen yhteiskunnan jokaisella osa-alueella alleviivaa myös uusien digitaalisten kompetenssien tärkeyttä kaikissa ikäluokissa. In this article, our focus is on sustainable development in mathematics education from the point of view of teacher training. The aim was to develop prospective teachers’ content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge of school mathematics. As a case study, we chose the mathematical symbol “a/b”, and examined how prospective class teachers in Finland connect it to the concepts of fraction, ratio, division, rational number or probability.
