Implant-supported fixed prostheses in a Patient with Osteogenesis Imperfecta : a 4-year follow-up
2017
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a rare autosomal dominant connective tissue disorder in wich, the bone quality and density is affected. OI includes some metabolic disorders and have a wide range of clinical presentations. In Osteogenesis Imperfecta bone has a very low density and it is a disorder currently treated with bisphosphonates. Quality and quantity of bone is important for establishment of osseointegration in dental implants. There are few reported cases in the literature. This is a case report of a 61 year-old man with grade IV OI, rehabilitated with implant-supported fixed prostheses in the posterior right and left mandible, whithout bone grafts. At the 4-year follow-up, clinical …
Economic valuation of environmental benefits from wastewater treatment processes: An empirical approach for Spain
2009
Economic research into the design and implementation of policies for the efficient management of water resources has been emphasized by the European Water Framework Directive (Directive 2000/60/EC). The efficient implementation of policies to prevent the degradation and depletion of water resources requires determining their value in social and economic terms and incorporating this information into the decision-making process. A process of wastewater treatment has many associated environmental benefits. However, these benefits are often not calculated because they are not set by the market, due to inadequate property rights, the presence of externalities, and the lack of perfect information…
On Activity and Passivity in Perception: Aristotle, Philoponus, and Pseudo-Simplicius
2014
Ancient and late ancient theories of perception are often described by a generalisation according to which Aristotle held a passive theory whereas Plato, the Platonists and the Neoplatonists supposed perception to be something active. I shall argue that, despite this general difference, there are important points of convergence in the theories of Aristotle and his Neoplatonic commentators. First, the notion of activity is important for Aristotle’s theory as well. Perception not only is an activity (energeia) for Aristotle. It is a perfect activity, the perfection of which is the activity itself and is thus not dependent on an external product. Further, the reception of forms without matter …
The New Gnosis and the Denial of Ontological Differences
2021
The current transhumanist or posthumanist movements continue the thesis of the old gnosis devaluing the creation like something imperfect. Its novelty is to believe in the possibility of overcoming the creation thanks to technology (biotechnology and bionics). The ideology of gender partly anticipates this way of thinking by devaluing the somatic difference between male and female. This denial of the differences then applies to those existing between the human and the non-human (on one side the primates, and on the other the computer). Posthumanism and transhumanism believe that technology will not only overcome the ontological differences, which form the human, but also the so-called extre…
The Implication of Xyloglucan Endotransglucosylase/Hydrolase (XTHs) in Tomato Fruit Infection by Penicillium expansum Link. A
2007
In general, cell wall-degrading enzymes produced by plant pathogenic fungi are considered important pathogenicity factors. In this work, we evaluate the implication of xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/ hydrolase (XTHs), a potential hemicellulosic repairing enzyme, in the infection mechanism process by the fungus. This study investigated the SIXTHS expresion and xyloglucan endotransglucosylase (XET) activity during infection of two tomato fruit cultivars by Penicillium expansum Link. A. In infected fruits, XET specific activity decreased drastically after long infection periods, 24 and 48 h for Canario and Money Maker tomato fruits, respectively. Real Time RT-PCR of eleven SIXTHS also showed …
Decision support for centralizing cargo at a Moroccan airport hub using stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis
2010
The geographical location of Morocco places it at the heart of important sea, air, rail and motorway transport routes between four continents. In this study we evaluate different alternatives to centralize multimodal cargo at a Moroccan airport hub. The choice depends on different socio-economical criteria, the geographical location, and the environmental impacts. Some of the criteria can be measured quantitatively, while for others only qualitative assessment is feasible. Furthermore, significant uncertainty is present in both the criteria measurements and the preferences. We aided this decision process using Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis (SMAA). SMAA is a method that all…
Architettura in alzato. Questioni di territorio, paesaggio, ambiente
2021
On the weight distribution of perfect binary codes
2021
In this paper, we give a new proof of the closed-form formula for the weight distribution of a perfect binary single-error-correcting code.
Symmetric units and group identities
1998
In this paper we study rings R with an involution whose symmetric units satisfy a group identity. An important example is given by FG, the group algebra of a group G over a field F; in fact FG has a natural involution induced by setting g?g −1 for all group elements g∈G. In case of group algebras if F is infinite, charF≠ 2 and G is a torsion group we give a characterization by proving the following: the symmetric units satisfy a group identity if and only if either the group of units satisfies a group identity (and a characterization is known in this case) or char F=p >0 and 1) FG satisfies a polynomial identity, 2) the p-elements of G form a (normal) subgroup P of G and G/P is a Hamiltonia…
