Interbasin Water Transfers in Spain: Interregional Conflicts and Governance Responses

2014

Semiarid and drought-prone Spain has managed to meet ever-increasing water demands for more than 50 years through the construction of publicly funded hydraulic infrastructure. Interbasin water transfers are the most expensive and complex supply-side tool used. They are also the most controversial, often associated with such unintended consequences as deteriorating freshwater ecosystems, disappearing recreational opportunities provided by aquatic ecosystems, and the loss of development opportunities for downstream communities. This situation has become increasingly unstable over the past decade due to the scarcity of new supply augmentation alternatives, political changes involving European …

The influence of EU policy on local policy-making, governance and urban change. Evidence from Porto, Portugal

2021

Porto has long been a site of experimentation in the field of European urban policies, implemented through different initiatives and supported by EU funding. The paper describes the different urban regeneration experiences that have been undertaken by the city, analyses the nature of the policy instruments which have been implemented, and in what ways they relate to local policy-making, governance and development. What emerges from this analysis is a more complex perspective of the relationship between local/national/European policies, which needs a broader understanding of local processes to understand the emergence and transfer of the holistic approach promoted by the EU.

Apstākļa vārdu un to frāžu lietojums korporatīvās pārvaldības ziņojumos

2020

Bilingual corporate websites - from translation to transcreation?

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Journal of Specialised Translation. Also available from the publisher at: http://www.jostrans.org/issue20/art_rike.pdf Open Access As an increasing number of companies see the world as their marketplace, bilingual and/or multilingual websites are becoming increasingly common, and the demand for translations in this domain is growing. Corporate websites are multimodal, and verbal messages, images, layout and sometimes animations and sound interact to create the rhetoric on the site. With web texts being instantly available to readers anywhere, the translator’s role as a cultural mediator attains a special significance as the texts may be access…

Managing digital transformation: The view from the top

2022

Digital Transformation is upending businesses everywhere. While there is ample research on this topic, there is a clear gap when it comes to understanding the changing talent management role of senior executives in digital transformation processes and the demands of individual employees. This article relies on 23 in-depth interviews with senior managers who are leading all or some of the digital transformation efforts of their respective organizations. Our research, using a grounded theory approach, identifies four key activities (and 37 sub-activities or themes) stemming from the new managerial needs and talent management practices arising from DT processes. We branded these key activities…

2017

Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2017 In the last decade, most emerging markets have been associated with new investment opportunities and some growth prospects that attract private equity (hereafter, PE) investors. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE RESOURCE BASED FIRM BETWEEN VALUE APPROPRIATION AND VALUE CREATION

2005

Various authors have brought forth the idea that the increase in context turbulence and the relentless change in today’s economic and competitive environments have rendered it essential for an effective firm strategy to combine both value appropriation and value creation (Porter, (1996); Moran & Ghoshal, (1999); Venkataraman & Sarasvathy, (2001); Hitt et al., (2001b). Nonetheless, the methodological bases and the assumptions that characterize contributions concerning value appropriation and value creation are notably different and in many respects opposite to one another. These profound methodological differences hinder the possibility of a combined consideration of value appropriation and …

Nanofilm metal layers as vacuum quality sensors

2010

Abstract A monitoring device for vacuum quality is realized by lowest cost single use oxygen sensors for vacuum insulation panels. They use the pressure dependence of oxide layer growth thickness on electrically measured metal nanofilms. These films were manufactured by e-beam evaporation, characterized in terms of resistance change with subsequent modeling of underlying mechanisms.

Korporatīvās pārvaldības ietekme uz Baltijas vērtspapīru biržā kotēto uzņēmumu akciju cenu.

2020

2017

Palielinoties uzņēmuma vadītāju lomai, organizējot darbību vairāku kultūru ietvaros, vadītājiem ir jāsaprot kultūru vienojošus un atšķirošus faktorus, lai spētu organizēt efektīvu darbu plānošanu un efektīvu plānu izpildi. Darba mērķis ir identificēt nacionālo kultūru atšķirības uzņēmumā “Ernst & Young Baltic”, apkopojot un salīdzinot Latvijas, Lietuvas un Igaunijas projektu vadītāju vadības stilus. Darbs sastāv no anotācijas latviešu un angļu valodās, apzīmējumu saraksta, ievada, četrām nodaļām, secinājumu un priekšlikumu sadaļas, pielikuma. Darba apjoms ir 71 lapaspuse, ar ievie…
