Six-month healing success rates after endodontic treatment using the novel GentleWave System: the pure prospective multi-center clinical study

2015

Background This prospective multi-center (PURE) clinical study evaluated healing rates for molars after root canal treatment employing the GentleWave® System (Sonendo, Inc., Laguna Hills, CA). Material and Methods Eighty-nine patients met the inclusion criteria and consented for this clinical study after referral for a root canal treatment. All enrolled patients were treated with the GentleWave System. Five endodontists performed the clinical procedures and follow-up evaluations. Pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative data were collected from the consented patients. Each patient was evaluated for clinical signs and symptoms. Two trained, blinded, and independent evaluators score…

Association of Vital Pulp Therapy Outcomes with Tooth Type, Arch Location, Treatment Type, and Number of Surfaces Destroyed in Deciduous Teeth: A Ret…

2021

There is a paucity of information concerning vital pulp treatment outcomes in the undergraduate teaching setting. This study aimed to determine which type of deciduous molar, arch location, type of vital pulp therapy, and the number of carious surfaces involved had a better prognosis when carried out by undergraduate dental students. The method used was the review of clinical records of 590 patients with 600 deciduous molars, that visited the outpatient undergraduate dental clinics for vital pulp therapy. Statistical analysis used to determine the associations of tooth type, arch location, treatment type, and the number of carious surfaces involved in successful outcomes was logistic regres…

Predicting Skin Permeability by Means of Computational Approaches: Reliability and Caveats in Pharmaceutical Studies

2019

The skin is the main barrier between the internal body environment and the external one. The characteristics of this barrier and its properties are able to modify and affect drug delivery and chemical toxicity parameters. Therefore, it is not surprising that permeability of many different compounds has been measured through several in vitro and in vivo techniques. Moreover, many different in silico approaches have been used to identify the correlation between the structure of the permeants and their permeability, to reproduce the skin behavior, and to predict the ability of specific chemicals to permeate this barrier. A significant number of issues, like interlaboratory variability, experim…

Correlation of Pharmacological Properties of a Group of Hypolipaemic Drugs by Molecular Topology

1996

Abstract This investigation was undertaken to test the ability of the molecular connectivity model to predict the percentage of plasma protein binding, the percentage of total cholesterol reduction and oral LD50 in rats of a group of hypolipaemic drugs using multi-variable regression equations with multiple correlation coefficients, standard error of estimate, degrees of freedom, F-Snedecor function values, Mallow's CP and Student's t-test as criteria of fit. Regression analyses showed that the molecular connectivity model predicts these properties. Corresponding stability (cross validation) studies were made on the selected prediction models which confirmed their goodness of fit. The resul…

Zinc-positive presynaptic boutons of the rabbit hippocampus during early postnatal development

1998

Abstract The evolution of vesicular zinc-containing boutons in the developing rabbit hippocampus has been studied during early postnatal life using the selenite–Danscher histochemical method. By P3, large immature mossy fiber boutons with labeled synaptic vesicles were seen in the hilus of the dentate gyrus and in the stratum lucidum of the CA3–CA4 hippocampal areas. After P5, smaller boutons with labeled vesicles were identified in the stratum oriens and stratum radiatum of all hippocampal areas, and even transiently in the stratum lacunosum of P6 animals. Vesicular zinc-containing boutons increased in number and underwent ultrastructural maturation; light microscope densitometric–volumetr…

Segmenting customers according to online word-of-mouth about hotels

2021

There is a renewed interest in the study of online word-of-mouth behavior due to the increasing use of the Internet and the development of social networks. This paper focuses on the receiver perspective to analyze the unequal influence of the antecedents of online consumer searches. The main purpose is to detect the heterogeneity of the effect of different motivations (convenience, risks reduction and social reassurance) and the volume of comments on the willingness to check online reviews. Based on 393 guests of hotels, a mixture regression model indicates the existence of three internally consistent segments, which reveal the varying influence on consumer intentions to look at online comm…

Instance-Based Multi-Label Classification via Multi-Target Distance Regression

2021

Interest in multi-target regression and multi-label classification techniques and their applications have been increasing lately. Here, we use the distance-based supervised method, minimal learning machine (MLM), as a base model for multi-label classification. We also propose and test a hybridization of unsupervised and supervised techniques, where prototype-based clustering is used to reduce both the training time and the overall model complexity. In computational experiments, competitive or improved quality of the obtained models compared to the state-of-the-art techniques was observed. peerReviewed

School fitness tests as predictors of adult health-related fitness.

2006

Relationships between adolescent physical fitness and adult health-related fitness were investigated. Forty-five subjects (20 males, 25 females) participated in physical fitness tests in 1976 and again in 2001. The adolescent physical fitness tests were distance running (2,000 m for boys or 1,500 m for girls), 50 m run, pull-ups (boys) or flexed arm hangs (girls), shuttle run, a 30-sec sit-up test, standing broad jump, hand grip-test, and sit-and-reach test. The adult health-related physical fitness index (APFI), stratified by sex, was formed by summing the z-scores of a bicycle ergometer test, sit-up test, hand-grip test, and sit-and-reach test. Height- and weight-adjusted correlations bet…

The Material Deprivation of Foreigners: Measurement and Determinants

2016

We examine the material deprivation of foreigners on a sub-sample of the 2009 Italian Survey on Income and Living Conditions carried out by Istat. We employ an index of material deprivation that takes into account the regional level of analysis, and relies on the assignment of weights to deprivation items. The effects produced on material deprivation by several variables, interpreted as determinants, are investigated through a zero-inflated beta regression model.

2013

Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for healthcare workers, but many do not follow the recommendation. The objective of this study was to investigate the factors associated with seasonal influenza vaccination in the 2011–2012 season. We carried out an anonymous web survey of Spanish primary healthcare workers in 2012. Information on vaccination, and knowledge and attitudes about the influenza vaccine was collected. Workers with medical conditions that contraindicated vaccination and those with high risk conditions were excluded. Multivariate analysis was performed using unconditional logistic regression. We included 1,749 workers. The overall vaccination coverage was 50.7% and was h…
