Gilmoren tytöt on amerikkalainen televisiosarja, joka seuraa 32-vuotiaan äidin ja 16-vuotiaan tyttären elämää fiktiivisessä Stars Hollow’n pikkukaupungissa Connecticutissa seitsemän vuoden ajan. Tämän kandidaatintutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää, miten Gilmoren tyttöjen verbaalinen huumori rakentuu. Gilmoren tytöt tunnetaan vahvojen naishahmojensa ja feministisyytensä lisäksi myös eläväisestä, terävästä dialogistaan. Patterns of Regional Income Distribution in Uruguay (1872–2012): A Story of Agglomeration, Natural Resources and Public Policies

In this chapter, we provide a new data set of regional GDP and GDP per capita for Uruguay between 1870 and 2012. As regards the long-term evolution of regional inequality, we find evidence of a persistent decline from the last third of the nineteenth century up to the 1960s with a strong reversal of the process from then on. The first decade of the twenty-first century, however, shows a new decreasing trend in regional inequality. Montevideo has represented a large share, both demographically and economically, over time as consequence of a privileged access to sea and the fact that the city was built around a natural port with excellent conditions. Role of the Netrin-like Domain of Procollagen C-Proteinase Enhancer-1 in the Control of Metalloproteinase Activity

The netrin-like (NTR) domain is a feature of several extracellular proteins, most notably the N-terminal domain of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs), where it functions as a strong inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases and some other members of the metzincin superfamily. The presence of a C-terminal NTR domain in procollagen C-proteinase enhancers (PCPEs), proteins that stimulate the activity of astacin-like tolloid proteinases, raises the possibility that this might also have inhibitory activity. LRP1 modulates APP trafficking along early compartments of the secretory pathway

The amyloid beta peptide (A beta) is a central player in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology. A beta liberation depends on APP cleavage by beta- and gamma-secretases. The low density lipoprotein receptor related protein 1 (LRP1) was shown to mediate APP processing at multiple steps. Newly synthesized LRP1 can interact with APP, implying an interaction between these two proteins early in the secretory pathway. We wanted to investigate whether LRP1 mediates APP trafficking along the secretory pathway, and, if so, whether it affects APP processing. Detection of explanation obstacles in scientific texts: the effect of an understanding task vs. an experiment task

The aim of this study is to analyse the effect of tasks on the detection of explanation obstacles when secondary school students read scientific texts. Students were instructed to read short passages under different task conditions, and to ask questions if necessary. Obstacle detection was operationalised in terms of the type of questions asked by the students. The experiment examined the influence of goals associated with the task of reading to understand a text vs. reading to perform a procedure described by the text (a science experiment). A new strategic group of companies has appeared in Europe. This group, low-cost airlines, differs markedly from the traditional flagship companies. Focusing on a dynamic approach, the study discussed in this paper was developed to determine whether companies in different strategic groups adopted different price setting methods depending on which group they belonged to. The study is based on price information recorded at 11 different time periods for 12 airlines.
