Post-Secular Identity? Developing a New Approach to Religion in International Relations and IR Studies
2021
In spite of the increasing presence of religion in international relations with various publications observing this presence and numerous authorities calling for the inclusion of religion into mainstream research, there is no universal consent to recognize religion’s role in IR. In our opinion, the only way to reconcile IR with the international reality in which religion has been and will remain present in the foreseeable future is for the researchers themselves to construct—especially those oriented towards broad, non-Western perspective—a new face of the discipline, the face which in this article we call the post-secular identity of IR study. Assuming that identity is first and foremost a…

Italian Bloggers' Stories: Their Personalities and Interpersonal Relationship Quality
2009
Abstract: Personal blogs represent a new emergent phenomenon that draws attention of psycholo-gists. In this framework, the present paper discusses the opportunity of evaluating both bloggers’ per-sonalities and their social relationships quality using blog as a new research methodology. Blog usagedata, Big Five personality traits, Interpersonal relationships quality and Internet addiction were evalu-ated in a population of 30 Italian bloggers. Results about Big Five personality traits showed no specificpersonality patterns leading people to become bloggers. However, Italian bloggers describe them-selves as individuals considerably open to experience, very affiliative or friendly and capabl…
Robust optimality of linear saturated control in uncertain linear network flows
2008
We propose a novel approach that, given a linear saturated feedback control policy, asks for the objective function that makes robust optimal such a policy. The approach is specialized to a linear network flow system with unknown but bounded demand and politopic bounds on controlled flows. All results are derived via the Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs and viscosity theory.
ROBUST CONTROL STRATEGIES FOR MULTI—INVENTORY SYSTEMS WITH AVERAGE FLOW CONSTRAINTS
2006
Abstract In this paper we consider multi—inventory systems in presence of uncertain demand. We assume that i) demand is unknown but bounded in an assigned compact set and ii) the control inputs (controlled flows) are subject to assigned constraints. Given a long—term average demand, we select a nominal flow that feeds such a demand. In this context, we are interested in a control strategy that meets at each time all possible current demands and achieves the nominal flow in the average. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for such a strategy to exist and we characterize the set of achievable flows. Such conditions are based on linear programming and thus they are constructive. In …

Normalizing biproportional methods
2002
International audience; Biproportional methods are used to update matrices: the projection of a matrix Z to give it the column and row sums of another matrix is R Z S, where R and S are diagonal and secure the constraints of the problem (R and S have no signification at all because they are not identified). However, normalizing R or S generates important mathematical difficulties: it amounts to put constraints on Lagrange multipliers, non negativity (and so the existence of the solution) is not guaranteed at equilibrium or along the path to equilibrium.
Wine - investment: a profitable alternative investment or a simple long term pleasure?
2014
International audience; The purpose of this work is twofold: - to make a first historic analysis of performance through an investment in wine by comparing its performance with those that would have been possible to obtain at the same time by providing financial term investments; - to introduce the regional diversity of performance by considering the situation in the three selected geographic areas.
