SENS's Indicator. A Tool for Measuring the Equity of Educational Systems. A Comparison of European Countries

Initially, Sen's Indicator was built to measure the rate of poverty. Its principal advantage is that it considers three dimensions simultaniously: The rate of poverty, the intensity of poverty, the inequality of income distribution among the poor. For the work of GERESE, SEN's Indicator has been adapted for the educational system. We have built two indicators : an indicator of weakness of the students and another for the excellence of the students. I will develop in this text the indicator of weakness.

Using PISA 2000 data, this study presents an international comparison of the way social origin influences reading comprehension performances, looking at a variety of variables, some external to the school system, others internal. A variable's effect is strong in proportion to the strength of its association to father's occupation and degree to which it favors performance. The study uses the method of path analysis to distinguish between these two aspects. The French situation is presented, then compared to twelve other European Union countries. We have developed an integrated system permitting the simultaneous acquisition of the 3D shape and the spectral spectral reflectance of scanned object surfaces. We call this system a 3D multispectral scanner because it combines within a stereopair, a multispectral video camera and a structured light projector. We see several application possibilities for a such acquisition system but we want to highlight applications in the field of digital archiving and broadcasting for heritage objects. Quick Affective Judgments: Validation of a Method for Primed Product Comparisons

A method for primed product comparisons was developed, based on the methodological considerations of emotional appraisal process and affective mental contents. The method was implemented as a computer tool, which was utilised in two experiments (N = 18 for both). Ten adjectives served as primes, and five drinking glass pictures as stimuli. Participants' task was to choose a preference between two glasses, given the priming adjective. The results validate the method by providing test-retest reliability measures and showing convergence with questionnaires. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan aktivointipolitiikan paradigmaan lukeutuvan nuorisotakuun kannustavuutta. Tämä tapahtuu tutkimalla sitä toimeenpanevien TE-toimistojen toimintaa erityisesti työntekijän ja nuoren työnhakijan vuorovaikutuksellisen kohtaamisen näkökulmasta. Tässä työvoimapoliittisen byrokratian kehystämässä kohtaamisessa muodostuvaa kannustavuutta tutkitaan nuoren subjektiivista aktivoitumista mittaamalla. One-Stop Guidance Service Centres in Finland

This chapter describes Finnish efforts to introduce and expand the service model known as the ‘One-Stop Guidance Centre’ as a tool for Youth Guarantee implementation. A One-Stop Guidance Centre is a physical location where a young person can access the entire service provision. Firstly, the chapter explores the levels of youth unemployment in Nordic countries. Secondly, the evolution and development of the One-Stop Guidance Centres based on the private-public-people-partners approach is presented. Lastly, some emerging outcomes are reviewed. peerReviewed
Lifelong Guidance in Finland : Key Policies and Practices

Finland has a long history of good collaboration between the educational and employment sector regarding lifelong guidance, specifically career guidance. Today, this manifests as having a national strategy for lifelong guidance, good access to high quality services and innovative pilots such as the One-Stop Guidance Centres for youth. The new government led by Prime Minister Sanna Marin has decided to put even more efforts into lifelong guidance.
