The present study explored the perspectives of mothers from three communities regarding their role in play activities with their toddlers. The mothers of two-year-old children from Muenster, Germany (n = 34), Chennai, India (n = 36), and New York City, USA (n = 36), participated in the study. Qualitative content analysis was utilized to analyze the mothers' responses to semi-structured interview questions. Four roles were identified as characterizing the mothers' narratives, namely mothers as facilitators, teachers, play partners, or observers. Drooling is the uncontrolled leakage of saliva outside the mouth, generally as a result of difficulty in swallowing the saliva produced. Many factors contribute to drooling, though it is more commonly seen in children with brain paralysis - particularly those receiving anticonvulsivant medication. Drooling is also often seen in patients with lip sealing problems or malocclusions such as anterior open bite. Clinically, the affected patients can develop skin irritation or abrasions, problems of hygiene, unpleasant smell and - in the more severe presentations - the need to wear protectors or frequently change clothing. Pro gradu -tutkielmassani luen Saila Susiluodon teosta Carmen (2010) metalyyrisenä allegoriana: narratiivisena vertauskuvallisena jatkumona, joka kertoo runoudesta ja omasta rakentumisestaan. Lähtökohtana on ajatus,että runojen nimikkopuhujana toimiva Carmen on eräänlainen runon ruumiillistuma. Tarkastelen, mitä metalyyrinen allegoria paljastaa runon luonteesta sekä suhteesta runoilijaan ja muihin taiteisiin. Tutkin, mikä on runon tehtävä ja paikka maailmassa ja miten ne kytkeytyvät runon puhujan sukupuoleen. Samalla pyrin havainnoimaan, millaisin keinoin metalyyristä allegoriaa rakennetaan. Hannu Sirkkilä on tutkinut suomalais-thaimaalaisia parisuhteita 18 suomalaisen miehen kertomusten pohjalta. Kyseisten suhteiden syntyyn on liitetty vaimojen välitystoimintaa ja seksiturismia ja ne ovat saaneet kielteisen leiman. Haastatellut miehet haluavatkin tavallistaa thaimaalaisen vaimonsa ja parisuhteensa.
