Forbidden nonunique β decays and effective values of weak coupling constants
2016
Forbidden nonunique β decays feature shape functions that are complicated combinations of different nuclear matrix elements and phase-space factors. Furthermore, they depend in a very nontrivial way on the values of the weak coupling constants, gV for the vector part and gA for the axial-vector part. In this work we include also the usually omitted second-order terms in the shape functions to see their effect on the computed decay half-lives and electron spectra (β spectra). As examples we study the fourth-forbidden nonunique ground-state-to-ground-state β− decay branches of 113Cd and 115In using the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model and the nuclear shell model. A striking new feature …

One-step synthesis of resorcarene dimers composed of two tetra-benzoxazine units
1998
Abstract The condensation of resorcarene 1 with ethylenediamine and an excess of formaldehyde gives, under high dilution conditions, in up to 15% yield the octa-benzoxazine dimer 2 in which two molecules of 1 are connected by four bridges. The structure of 2 has been confirmed by 1 H NMR spectra and MALDI-TOF mass spectra and by hydrolysis of the oxazine rings yielding the secondary amine 3 .
Trichromatic color vision in the salamander (Salamandra salamandra)
1995
Spectral sensitivity functions were measured between 334 nm and 683 nm in Salamandra salamandra by utilizing two behavioral reactions: the negative phototactic response, and the prey catching behavior elicited by a moving worm dummy. The action spectrum of the negative phototactic response revealed 3 pronounced maxima: at 360–400 nm, at 520–540 nm, and at 600–640 nm. In the range around 450 nm, there was a “reaction gap” where sensitivity could not be measured. The action spectrum of the prey catching behavior was entirely different: maximal sensitivity was found at 500 nm and at 570 nm. Between 500 nm and 334 nm sensitivity decreased continuously for about 1 log unit (Fig. 6).
Influence of Light on the Bioelectric Potential of the Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) Hypocotyl Hook
1975
By use of surface electrodes electropotenlial measurements were carried out on hypocotyl hooks of Phaseolus vulgaris seedlings. The hooks were illuminated with a small spot of white, blue, red or far red light. The potential changes in bean hypocotyl hooks do not show the red-far red reversible characteristics of phytochrome-mediated processes. By experimenting with inhibitors of photosynthesis we could demonstrate that the light-triggered potential changes in green bean hooks are correlated to photosynthetic electron transport phenomena. The red-light-induced transient is a depolarization, whereas blue light induces a hyperpolarization. Etiolated beans exhibit no bioelectric potential chan…
ChemInform Abstract: Syntheses of Some Biologically Active Compounds from Stilbenes Isolated from the Bark of Picea abies.
2010
From the four stilbenes 1–4 isolated from the bark of Picea abies seven compounds 5–11 were obtained by hydrogenation or permethylation. 1H-, 13C-NMR and mass spectra were used for their characterization. The antileukemic activity of each compound was preliminary tested. Some compounds were further tested for their anti-HIV activity.

Recognition of Chip Forms by Means of Dynamic Force Spectrum Analysis
1993
In this study the ability to identify chip forms occurrs in the turning of austenitic stainless steel using dynamic force spectrum analysis has been tested. For this purpose the frequency spectra obtained from various metal cutting tests were recorded along with the static cutting forces. A dual channel analysis, based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), was adopted to help identify the continuous/discontinuous (favourable/unfavourable) chip forming boundary. The results showed an acceptable correlation between the types of the frequency spectra and the types of chip forms. Finally, an original classification of the spectra obtained during turning of AISI 304 (DIN 1.4301) stainless steel i…
Electromagnetic spectrum and color vision
2004
In most of occasions the maps, drawings and printed images are elaborated thinking that the observer will visualize them with illuminants like the light of the day. With these illuminants, for example the CIE D/sub 65/, we can distinguish the great quantity of colors that it is capable the human eye. But if the illuminant has a very different spectrum than the light of day, for example the light of acetylene, the number of colors that we are able to distinguish can decrease drastically.
Vergleichende tierexperimentelle Untersuchungen mit Kaffee und Tee
1969
