Keggin heteropolyacid H3PW12O40 supported on different oxides for catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted propene hydration

2013

Catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted hydration of propene to form 2-propanol in gas–solid regime at atmospheric pressure and 85 1C were carried out by using a heteropolyacid (POM) supported on different oxides. Binary materials were prepared by impregnation of H3PW12O40 on different commercial and home prepared supports (TiO2, SiO2, WO3, ZrO2, ZnO, Al2O3). Some of the composites were active both for catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted reactions. The Keggin type POM was completely and partially degraded, when supported on ZnO and Al2O3, respectively, and these binary solids always resulted as inactive for both catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted reactions. The supported Keggin POM sp…

Surface debris of canal walls after post space preparation in endodontically treated teeth: A scanning electron microscopic study

2004

Abstract Purpose To evaluate surface cleanliness of root canal walls along post space after endodontic treatment using 2 different irrigant regimens, obturation techniques, and post space preparation for adhesive bonding. Study design Forty teeth, divided into 4 groups, were instrumented, using Ni-Ti rotary files, irrigated with NaOCl or NaOCl + EDTA and obturated with cold lateral condensation (CLC) or warm vertical condensation (WVC) of gutta-percha. After post space preparation, etching, and washing procedure, canal walls were observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Amount of debris, smear layer, sealer/gutta-percha remnants, and visibility of open tubules were rated. Result…

Silencing and enhancement of second-harmonic generation in optical gap antennas

2012

International audience; Amplifying local electromagnetic fields by engineering optical interactions between individual constituents of an optical antenna is considered fundamental for efficient nonlinear wavelength conversion in nanometer-scale devices. In contrast to this general statement we show that high field enhancement does not necessarily lead to an optimized nonlinear activity. In particular, we demonstrate that second-harmonic responses generated at strongly interacting optical gap antennas can be significantly suppressed. Numerical simulations are confirming silencing of second-harmonic in these coupled systems despite the existence of local field amplification. We then propose a…

Ettringite surface chemistry: Interplay of electrostatic and ion specificity

2011

International audience; This paper presents a detailed experimental study combined with Monte Carlo (MC) simulations within the primitive model of the physical chemistry at the ettringite-water interface over a wide range of pH and bulk conditions for which ettringite exists thanks to its solubility in aqueous solutions. Ettringite, which is an important phase in hydrated cement-based systems, bears a permanent and positive structural charge. In contrast with previous studies, electrokinetic measurements together with the careful chemical analysis of the equilibrium solutions of the dispersions have brought strong support to designate sulfate as being the ion determining the potential. Simu…

Dielectrophoretic trapping of DNA origami.

2008

In this thesis three-dimensional tube-shaped DNA-origamis were dielectrophoretically trapped within lithographically fabricated nanoelectrodes. The origamis had been premade while the electrodes were fabricated specifically for these experiments with two different gapsizes, 150 nm and 400 nm. The aim of the work was to capture individual nanotubes in the gap between the electrodes by utilizing the dielectrophoretic forces present in the structure when a solution containing the origamis was put onto the electrodes and a voltage was applied. It was observed during the experiments that the success of the dielectrophoretic trapping depended strongly on the trapping conditions. This caused the t…

Rolling resistance contribution to a road pavement life cycle carbon footprint analysis

2016

Purpose Although the impact of road pavement surface condition on rolling resistance has been included in the life cycle assessment (LCA) framework of several studies in the last years, there is still a high level of uncertainty concerning the methodological assumptions and the parameters that can affect the results. In order to adopt pavement carbon footprint/LCA as a decision-making tool, it is necessary to explore the impact of the chosen methods and assumptions on the LCA results. Methods This paper provides a review of the main models describing the impact of the pavement surface properties on vehicle fuel consumption and analyses the influence of the methodological assumptions related…

The role of EPS concentration in MBR foaming: analysis of a submerged pilot plant.

2010

Foaming in Membrane BioReactor (MBR) is a frequently discussed topic. Some authors reported that the phenomenon is due to filamentous organisms, like at Conventional Activated Sludge (CAS) plants. However, in recent years, other authors reported that the Extra-cellular Polymer Substances (EPSs) concentration is an important factor for controlling foam as well. Nevertheless, even if a number of MBR plants are affected by foaming, presently there are no suitable methods to evaluate the phenomenon. To facilitate the study of this controversial phenomenon in an MBR system, certain foam tests proposed in the past for CASPs were investigated. The results of the tests were able to adequately measu…

Deep oxidation of pollutants using gold deposited on a high surface area cobalt oxide prepared by a nanocasting route.

2011

Gold deposited on a cobalt oxide with high surface area (138 m2 g−1), obtained through a nanocasting route using a siliceous KIT-6 mesoporous material as a hard template, has demonstrated high activity for the total oxidation of propane and toluene, and ambient temperature CO oxidation. The addition of gold promotes the activity when compared to a gold-free Co3O4 catalyst prepared using the same nanocasting technique. The enhanced catalytic activity when gold is present has been explained for the deep oxidation of propane and toluene in terms of the improved reducibility of cobalt oxide when gold is added, rather than to the intrinsic activity of metallic gold particles. The improved behavi…

Graphene coating obtained in a cold-wall CVD process on the Co-Cr Alloy (L-605) for medical applications

2021

Graphene coating on the cobalt-chromium alloy was optimized and successfully carried out by a cold-wall chemical vapor deposition (CW-CVD) method. A uniform layer of graphene for a large area of the Co-Cr alloy (discs of 10 mm diameter) was confirmed by Raman mapping coated area and analyzing specific G and 2D bands

Polystyrene nanoparticles in the presence of (ethylene oxide)13(propylene oxide)30(ethylene oxide)13, N,N-dimethyloctylamine-N-oxide and their mixtur…

2008

Polystyrene nanoparticles were synthesized by emulsion polymerization of styrene. They were functionalized using the conventional surfactant N,N-dimethyloctylamine-N-oxide (ODAO), the tri-block copolymer (ethylene oxide)13(propylene oxide)30(ethylene oxide)13 (L64) and their mixtures. To this purpose, dynamic light scattering and calorimetric experiments were carried out and provided information consistent to each other. The L64 adsorption is Langmuir-type in the copolymer dilute regime and generates complex structures at larger concentrations. In the region where ODAO is in the unimeric state, the adsorption process is cooperative leading to hemi-micelle formation at the polystyrene nanopa…
