Goodpasture disease is an autoimmune disorder that occurs naturally only in humans. Also exclusive to humans is the phosphorylation process that targets the unique N-terminal region of the Goodpasture antigen. Here we report the molecular cloning of GPBP (Goodpasture antigen-binding protein), a previously unknown 624-residue polypeptide. Although the predicted sequence does not meet the conventional structural requirements for a protein kinase, its recombinant counterpart specifically binds to and phosphorylates the exclusive N-terminal region of the human Goodpasture antigen in vitro. Previous treatment attempts have been unsuccessful. [EN] The rich and complex chemistry of tungsten was employed to synthesize innovative WO3 nanoplatelets/nanosheets by simple anodization in acidic electrolytes containing different concentrations of complexing agents or ligands, namely F- and H2O2. The morphological and photoelectrochemical properties of these nanostructures were characterized. The best of these nanostructures generated stable photocurrent densities of ca. 1.8 mA cm(-2) at relatively low bias potentials (for WO3) of 0.7 V-Ag/AgCl under simulated solar irradiation, which can be attributed to a very high active surface area. Focusing on the generation of defined stereogenic centers, the [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangements are known as reliable reactions. Efficient FPGA Implementation of an Adaptive Noise Canceller

A hardware implementation of an adaptive noise canceller (ANC) is presented. It has been synthesized within an FPGA, using a modified version of the least mean square (LMS) error algorithm. The results obtained so far show a significant decrease of the required gate count when compared with a standard LMS implementation, while increasing the ANC bandwidth and signal to noise (S/N) ratio. This novel adaptive noise canceller is then useful for enhancing the S/N ratio of data collected from sensors (or sensor arrays) working in noisy environment, or dealing with potentially weak signals.

How to make an organelle in eukaryotes A key step in the evolution of complex organisms like eukaryotes was the organization of specific tasks into organelles. Reinkemeier et al. designed an artificial, membraneless organelle into mammalian cells to perform orthogonal translation. In response to a specific codon in a selected messenger RNA, ribosomes confined to this organelle were able to introduce chemical functionalities site-specifically, expanding the canonical set of amino acids. Total Variation Regularization in Digital Breast Tomosynthesis

We developed an iterative algebraic algorithm for the reconstruction of 3D volumes from limited-angle breast projection images. Algebraic reconstruction is accelerated using the graphics processing unit. We varied a total variation (TV)-norm parameter in order to verify the influence of TV regularization on the representation of small structures in the reconstructions. The Barzilai-Borwein algorithm is used to solve the inverse reconstruction problem.
