Solid state halogen bonded networks vs. dynamic assemblies in solution: explaining N⋯X interactions of multivalent building blocks

Tetrapyridine functionalized resorcinarene macrocycles were used as multivalent building blocks for the construction of halogen bonded networks with aryl halide linkers. In the solid state, resorcinarene macrocycles and aryl halide linker molecules assembled into interpenetrated, multidimensional halogen bonded networks with porous structure caused by the 3D block scaffold of the resorcinarenes. 19F NMR spectroscopy proved halogen bond formation also in solution, as either upfield or downfield shifts were observed depending on the bivalent or monovalent halogen bond binding mode. The binding mode in solution was explained by density functional theory computations. peerReviewed

The geometry of the silver 1,1′-dibenzyl-2,2′-biimidazole complexes

Abstract The argentophilic interactions and interactions of weakly coordinated nitrate and water with silver metal were studied by investigating the reaction of 1,1′-dibenzyl-2,2′-biimidazole (Bn2bim) with silver nitrate. Three new silver complexes [Ag4(Bn2bim)4(NO3)2]·4(CH3CH2OH)·2(NO3)·0.5(H2O) (1), [Ag4(Bn2bim)4(H2O)4]·4(NO3) (2) and [Ag4(Bn2bim)4(NO3)4]·6(CH2Cl2)·2(H2O) (3) were synthesized and characterized. Complexes 1-3 have rare tetranuclear twisted closed cyclic structure with four bridging biimidazoles and variable nitrate/water ratio. Triple associates based on (oxime)Pt(II) species, 18-crown-6, and water: Synthesis, structural characterization, and DFT study

Abstract The associates 2(cis-[PtCl2(acetoxime)2])⋅18-crown-6⋅2H2O (1), 2(cis-[PtBr2(acetoxime)2])⋅18-crown-6⋅2H2O (2), and trans-[PtCl2(acetaldoxime)2]⋅(18-crown-6)⋅2H2O (3) were synthesized by co-crystallization of free corresponding platinum species and 18-crown-6 from wet solvents and characterized by 1H NMR and IR spectroscopies, high-resolution mass-spectrometry (ESI), TG/DTA, and X-ray crystallography. Recognition of N-Alkyl- and N-Aryl-Acetamides by N-Alkyl Ammonium Resorcinarene Chlorides

N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarene chlorides are stabilized by an intricate array of intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds that leads to cavitand-like structures. Depending on the upper-rim substituents, self-inclusion was observed in solution and in the solid state. The self-inclusion can be disrupted at higher temperatures, whereas in the presence of small guests the self-included dimers spontaneously reorganize to 1:1 host-guest complexes. Bridgehead isomer effects in bis(phosphido)-bridged diiron hexacarbonyl proton reduction electrocatalysts

The influence of the substitution, orientation and structure of the phosphido bridges in [Fe2(CO)6(μ-PR2)2] electrocatalysts of proton reduction has been studied. The isomers e,a-[Fe2(CO)6{μ-P(Ar)H}2] (1a(Ar): Ar = Ph, 2′-methoxy-1,1′-binaphthyl (bn′)), e,e-[Fe2(CO)6{μ-P(Ar)H}2] (1b(Ar): Ar = Ph, bn′) were isolated from reactions of iron pentacarbonyl and the corresponding primary phosphine, syntheses that also afforded the phosphinidene-capped tri-iron clusters, [Fe3(CO)9(μ-CO)(μ3-Pbn′)] (2) and [Fe3(CO)9(μ3-PAr)2] (3(Ar), Ar = Ph, bn′). A new copper chloride chain by supported hydrogen bonding

In the current paper we introduce a new type of Cu–Cl polymer ([H2bipip]2+[CuCl3]2−)n. In this polymer the trigonal CuCl3 units are covalently linked via chloride bridges. The structure is supported by the bipiperidinium cation ([H2bipip]2+) via hydrogen bonds. The cation plays an essential role in formation of the polymeric structure. The closely related piperazinium (H2pip)2+ cation also leads to a hydrogen bonded assembly of CuCl3 ([H2pip]2+[CuCl3]2−), but a covalently bound polymer was not obtained.

Isolation of a stable, acyclic, two-coordinate silylene.

The synthesis and characterization of a stable, acyclic two-coordinate silylene, Si(SAr(Me(6)))(2) [Ar(Me(6)) = C(6)H(3)-2,6(C(6)H(2)-2,4,6-Me(3))(2)], by reduction of Br(2)Si(SAr(Me(6)))(2) with a magnesium(I) reductant is described. It features a V-shaped silicon coordination with a S-Si-S angle of 90.52(2)° and an average Si-S distance of 2.158(3) A. Although it reacts readily with an alkyl halide, it does not react with hydrogen under ambient conditions, probably as a result of the ca. 4.3 eV energy difference between the frontier silicon lone pair and 3p orbitals.

Synthesis, Structure and Catalytic Properties of Dinuclear Mo-VI Complexes with Ditopic Diaminotetraphenols

MoVI complexes with novel ditopic diaminotetraphenol ligands have been prepared by using a one-pot procedure in methanol or DMSO with [MoO2(acac)2] (acac = acetylacetonate) as the molybdenum source. The complexes were characterised with X-ray diffraction, NMR spectroscopic studies, elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy. In the solid state, the compounds represent either a rodlike molecular or oxido-bridged polymeric structure. The catalytic activity of the complexes was investigated by oxidising benzyl alcohol and 1-phenylethanol with hydrogen peroxide to the corresponding aldehyde and ketone, respectively. Furthermore, the catalytic activity was surveyed also in epoxidation of cyclooctene.

Reactions with a Metalloid Tin Cluster {Sn10[Si(SiMe3)3]4}(2-): Ligand Elimination versus Coordination Chemistry.

Chemistry that uses metalloid tin clusters as a start- ing material is of fundamental interest towards understand- ing the reactivity of such compounds. Since we identified {Sn10(Si(SiMe3)3)4} 2� 7 as an ideal candidate for such reactions, we present a further step in the understanding of metalloid tin cluster chemistry. In contrast to germanium chemistry, ligand elimination seems to be a major reaction channel, which leads to the more open metalloid cluster {Sn10(Si(SiMe3)3)3} � 9, in which the Sn core is only shielded by three Si(SiMe3)3 ligands. Role of C–H···Au and Aurophilic Supramolecular Interactions in Gold–Thione Complexes

The role of noncovalent gold–hydrogen and aurophilic interactions in the formation of extended molecular systems of gold complexes was studied. Three new gold compounds with a heterocyclic thione ligand N-methylbenzothiazole-2-thione (mbtt), namely, [AuCl(mbtt)] (1), [AuBr(mbtt)] (2), and [Au(mbtt)2][AuI2]1–n[I3]n (3), were synthesized and characterized. The halide ligand had a considerable effect on the complex structures and thus to noncovalent contacts.
